Lancer 5-lug & Rear Disc Conversion Part List
Although many people ask alot of questions about a rear disc conversion on their Lancers, very few have performed the swap. The same could be said for a 5-lug conversion. The swap itself is remarkably easy and can be performed in under 5 hours with the right parts. Since performing the conversion myself, I have noticed a greater availability of the parts needed available from part sites and figured it was time for a writeup.
Here's an overview of the parts needed. Keep in mind that all of these parts can be sourced used from a junk yard and will keep your overall costs very cheap. Here is the new parts route:
Rear Disc Conversion:
Rotors and pads - available from various places in various styles
Backing plates - only available new from Mitsu (MR569384 & MR569389)
Parking brake hardware kit - available from Rockauto.com - HW17405
5-lug hub assembly (you need 2) - available from Rockauto.com - HA590103
E-brake cables - only available new from Mitsu (MN102171 & MN102172)
Rear calipers - available new from Mitsu (MR955065 & MR955066), Rockauto.com as a loaded rear pair (8630203)
Brake hose (you need 2) - available new from Mitsu (MR449101), Rockauto.com (H620299)
Brake hard lines - available new from Mitsu (MR493468 & MR493469)
Brake hose (you need 2) - available new from Mitsu (MR493450)
Brake line clips (you need 6) - available new from Mitsu (MA431825)
Brake shoes - available new from Rockauto.com or from any local part store
That covers the rear disc & 5-lug swap. On to the front 5-lug conversion. The Ralliart and Lancer use the same spindle assembly, wheel bearing, etc.. You only need to change out the calipers and hub assemblies. The best route would be to source the entire spindle assembly from a Ralliart with the 5-lug hub already installed and maybe the caliper included. If not, here is the information:
Hub assembly (you need 2) - available new from Mitsu (MR519923), also may be ordered from a local part store
Calipers - available new from Mitsu (MR955063 & MR955064), or loaded from any local part store
I have also included the relevant diagrams to visually aid in the swap. Hopefully someone will take this list and do a proper writeup with lots of pictures during the install. If anyone has any questions or corrections, please let me know. Cheers.
Pete

I have no idea on the exact number. I hunted down parts over the course of a couple of months. It would probably be around $1000, give or take, depending on how resourceful you are sourcing parts. I paid $150 shipped for both complete front spindles from a 2005 Ralliart with 8,000 miles off of ebay. I also purchased all my parts new from Mitsu at a discounted rate. Rockauto has since made available many of the parts I bought from Mitsu for less money.
This way is better than the RPW kit in that all the parts are all sourced from a US vehicle that allows you to go to your local part store for replacement parts and not hunting them down from Australia.

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking of doing this swap, but was wondering about the master cylinder and/or proportioning valve. Usually when doing a drum to disc conversion this has to be addressed.

Thanks senate, I was going to do the RPW conversion, but from what you paid, I would save money and have more options for replacement parts down the road
BTW, did you have to install a larger master cylinder?

I'm currently using the stock Lancer 7/8" master cylinder and proportioning valves. You can't upgrade to the Ralliart proportioning valve because the Ralliart has ABS and a modulator. The Ralliart uses a 1" master cylinder. Upgrading to a 1" master cylinder from the 3kGT or Ralliart is a brake mod for Lancers in general. So technically braking would be improved even more by upgrading the master cylinder, but right now the braking is superb!!

The only issue would be finding a rotor that is not only 4-lug, but is 10.32" outer diameter and has the inner clearance to house the rear brake shoe setup. If you found a rotor that fit that outer diameter, but did not have the inner clearance you could use it fine and just lose the e-brake.

senate6268 I started the hunt for all my parts i have a couple questions, when you go into rock auto and search the parts you listed it gives you the options to choose for example parking brake hardware kit... you gota get it for a ralliart right ? same for the 5 lug hub assembly I imagine...
