Fully Built sleeved 2.0L GTX3071R

So whats going on, have been a long time lurker of the forums lol, but now its time to post something.

So I picked up a 2014 evo X in june 2016 and about a month later in July I was FBO ID1000cc and dw300c fuel pump stock turbo. Car made 350whp on 93oct, I wanted more power lol. So around september 2016 I ordered a gtx3071r and also picked up a turbular manifold, car ended up getting tuned at cbrd and also had some gsc s1 cams installed while it was there, put down 401whp at 26psi 93oct on his low reading mustang dyno. So not too long ago june/july 2017 I finally decided to go flex fuel, sourced some ID1700cc injectors and flex fuel kit and installed it and headed to a tuner in LI, car put down 501whp and 375wtq at 29.5psi on e90 on a dynojet, about 2 weeks later started having lean issues suspected it was the pump, swapped it out for a new one. Got retuned and car then put down 500whp and 360wtq on e76 and 28.5-29lbs of boost., not even a week later car died while driving on the highway had no idea what happened until the head was removed. Now onto the fun stuff some pictures

At very least you didn't ruin the shortblock, unless there is a hole somewhere down near the bottom that I can't see.

Now, I see something else that intrigues me. Correct me if I am wrong, but you appear to have the factory oil feed hard-line going to your GTX3071R. That is not something that I would have done.

Yea short block is still good so far. Will be taken apart, and fully built with sleeves and staying a 2.0l for now. Sourced a new head with 214b cams and beehive springs and retainers will be adding new valves to fully build the head. The gtx kit from garret did not supply a new line and i didnt think of it at the time to swap out for a new oil feed. Was told it was ok to use that one.

You have e90 access in NJ? I'm in the north and there are only 2 stations around.

Sucks to hear about the engine issues but looks like you're on your way to a solid setup. Good luck. Out of curiosity where are you getting e70 in North Jersey? Didn't realize there were any places in NJ outside of Newark.

Yea might as well build the motor.. it just happened so weird. Out of boost, cruising, about to get off in an exit and bam car shuts off out of nowhere. There is a gas station in east orange that has e82 available

Whos got the theory as to how this occurred Is this a valve float issue w/the valve striking the piston & breaking off ?

No doubt the stock motor was on the super, high end, HP tune (500 Mustang HP)

Sorry for your engine troubles, but a good post w/pics (we appreciate that)

thanks for the offer but found a good head with 214b and beehive springs and retainers, upgrading valves as well. Now the block will start getting built. Cant wait to see what power i can squeeze out of this gtx3071r, not too many threads on this turbo specially with a fully built motor.

wish i knew how it happened, its strange how it happened out of boost, just simply cruising on the highway, im thinking towards a weak valve, car had a total of 49k miles on stock motor other than stage 1 cams. Will keep updating this thread with pictures as the motor gets taken apart and built up cant wait to have her back already lol

But look at how clean all the other pistons are!

Running alcohol is like a SeaFoam treatment every time you drive your car! Lol.

What was the rev limiter set at? Stock valve springs with S1's are really only good to the stock rev limit, 7600. If it was going to 8k, especially with that much boost, it's very possible you had valve float and that valve kissed the piston. Motor will still run fine if the valve was only very slightly bent. And then it broke...

so whatever happened with your set up? I’m planning on running the same 3071 but gen 2 with a built head.
