I felt like my gas mileage was really bad lately so I took a look at my air filter and noticed it was pretty dirty. After taking it off to clean it, I noticed the filter has large holes in it seemingly from resting on a wiring harness...
How worried should I be? The holes could have been there anywhere from 2 years to a few months...
I'm going to order a replacement filter tonight and it should come on Tuesday... These filters are freaking expensive...

Next time you do an oil change, grab a sample of the oil and send it off to a lab, like Blackstone Labs. They'll be able to tell if there's extra sand going into the engine, causing wear or not.
