Newbie 03 Evo

Whats up everyone! My names Cameron and I am from Sacramento. I come from the Subie world. I use to have a 2011 WRX stage 2 with protune, super basic. Yesterday I picked up a 2003 Evo. Last Sunday my cousin texted me if I still wanted to buy her husbands evo ( We had talked about it in the past). My cousin is the original owner and turned it into a complete track car. The car is gutted on the inside and has a welded in roll cage. He had gone through a few motors and transmissions and the motor trans right now is "new". The car has been sitting for about 4 years. On Monday 3/12 I went to go look at the car and see what work it needed. The car turned right over after a jump. Yesterday I brought it home and today I drained the gas. Tomorrow I plan on doing the rest of the fluids

He told me the motor is new and has a Works 269 cam in it. The car idles really smooth so dont believe it does. Is there a way to tell if it is or do i need to pull the head cover? Is that hard?
The car has an evo 9 turbo and a 3 inch turbo back.

The car needs alot of love but Im excited for the project.
Here are a few pics.

Hey Cameron, great to have you join us on the EvOM boards

Youre a great addition w/being a previous Suby owner. Can you add a pic or 2 of the interior & the engine bay

Regarding the cam, a 269 cam is pretty mild so you may not hear it too much at idle IMO. You can remove the oil fill cap & w/a flash light see the intake cam. You may be able to see some distinguishing marks noting if its stock or not (you may need an experienced eye to tell)

Let me know if you have any quesitons

Joe

thanks I will add some interior and engine bay shots tonight. What would I be looking for in a stock cam vs the 269? should I just search for stock evo cam pics? LOL

Here are my stock 9 cams. You can see the casting areas where some aftermarket cams may have more of a machined area between the lobes

Excellent. Thanks for the pics. You have some clean up work but Im sure you will enjoy.

Are you planning on street driving this EvO. The full cage is always a safety issue on the track w/the bars?

The cams can still be aftermarket. There are plenty of them that are casted. Maybe when you get re-tuned, the tuner can tell w/out having to pull the valve cover

If you want to document your project, post up here so we can follow you & you can ask questions / other members will comment:https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/pr...d-threads-344/
