Laguna Seca Track Prep

Hello.

Any of you here run Laguna seca??

im running Laguna Seca nextweek and need your inputs.

i did tracks already but first on Laguna Seca.

Have:
400whp
Stop Tech Rotors
Friction Performance Pads 01
Mutol 660 Fluids
Steel braided lines
255-35-18 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 Tires

Is this enough for Laguna Seca?
I consider myself Novice-Intermediate driver with 3-4 Track days.

Thanks Team

How loud is your evo? IIRC they have extremely strict noise ordinances.

From how far away? Im sure its documented somewhere what the threshold is so as long as you are under that you should be good to go there.

We tested it thru 10ft, 20ft until 50ft.
didnt reach 92.

But i have 45 bent aluminum tubing(4” diameter) to re-direct the sound if incase they will black flag me.

im worried about my brakes,
i have good brakes but they said IIRC is hard on brakes.

This EvO guy certainly didnt do it right, but if you search images "Laguna Seca pipe" you will see many diff ideas on how to defeat the sound check station

^Joe I've seen that picture floating around and it gets me every time! Luckily the whole car didnt go up in flames like those guys revving their Lambos in the streets haha!

Regarding the brake concern, the best thing you can do is make sure you have fresh fluid and good track oriented pads. I've never used the PF01's but those may suffice depending on how fast you are. 400whp is a good amount of power on track. If they start fading them time to come in. Your tires arent all that grippy so I guess that will help you not overheat your pads.

I wouldnt say he needs to come in if he starts recognizing brake fade, Just need to find your threshold of hot and cooldown laps. But the sound thing there seems to be a real thing. If you dont have something special to mitigate, you probably wont pass at 400hp.

The only problem I've had with any of my cars was with brake pads. This was on a 235 Hankook R-S4. My pads were somewhat worn and I forgot to swap them out before the event. I'm not familiar with the pad you have, so hopefully someone can chime in. Just make sure they have enough meat on them. If there isn't enough, you could boil the fluid. If they are really worn, you could just plain run out of pad. Your fluid looks fine, the rotors won't matter, neither will the lines. As mentioned above, your tires won't grip too much during breaking, so you shouldn't be putting to much stress on brakes. Tires should be the weak point for you. Assuming your pads are up to snuff and you pass sound, you are good to go!

FWIW: my car is at 91dB with a 3" turbo back, resonator, and Magnaflow straight-through oval muffler. I don't pass their normal dB limit, so always have to wait for the occasional 92dB or unlimited days.

Yeah fair enough not necessarily park it but perhaps a few cool down laps would be a good idea. Basically what I was trying to say is you will know if you have enough brakes when you are using them and they are remaining consistant. Unless you have a catastrophic failure you don't just lose brakes typically but rather they get progressively worse so if you feel them falling off settle down for a bit before you get yourself in a pickle.

I'm also a proponent of not coming in right away. At least not without cool down laps. Not for any scientific reason other than not wanting to park the car with crazy hot brakes and no air moving over them. If my brakes suddenly went absent, that's another story, though. Lots of pucker, then.

Its also air moving over everything else thats been heat soaking. Diff, t-case, trans, and oil cooler all need time to shed that heat. I like to the 2-3 hot laps, and cool down lap cycle. Really helps for trying to get clean laps too being able to get gaps to slower cars

Thanks everyone for the inputs.

yeah, i will “feel the court first” and work to get better time later the day.

i will not rush thru hard braking corners, maybe brake early and work fast on the exit. thats the plan.
also, ive use Firestone Indy 500 tires before and its a good combo for my PF01 pads.

Just remember, no one wins a track day but some people lose. Have fun but dont let your ego push you harder than your knowledge of the track is ready for.
