Arashi billet BALL BEARING TD06HR 25g 6+6 stock location review

Whats happening guys, for a while now I have been trying to sorta upgrade turbos on a budget. For the time being I was planning to stick with a stock location turbo and push around 500 whp until I am able to source a spare block to build. I have been looking at the fp blacks but didnt wanna pay up lol, I have also been looking at other alternatives to forced performance like kinugawa/mamba/arashi however because of limited information on them I was very hesitant about getting one of them until I got to talking with Arashi Dynamics and found out that they are now making ball bearing stock location turbos for the evo 8/9 and couldn't resist their 25g offering. I chose to go with the 6+6 blade compressor wheel and a 9 blade turbine wheel however you can customize your turbo to your liking, they offer 11 blade compressor wheels and turbine wheels. The turbo has not arrived yet, it should be here tomorrow, when it does arrive it will be going on my EVO 8 gsr with basic supporting mods like:

VRSF 3.5" intercooler
Muse lower intercooler pipe
Custom 4" SD intake
GSC S2 cams and Beehive springs
FIC High Z 1000cc injectors
FP cast race manifold ported by me

As soon as I install the turbo will post results.

Well, I opened the box. The turbo looks/feels really well made and is actually ball bearing! The wastegate actuator is adustable and kinda resembles the turbo smart unit. Im really impressed with the quality of the hotside, its really smooth for a cast part and is currently not ported however I do plan to port it before the install. Now there is a slight problem, I purchased the 6+6 and recieved an 11 blade. I contacted arashi dynamics and they are fixing the issue, so far communication has been great, always respond within 24 hours.

I don't think 25G fits 2.0 well. My gut tells me that it flows too much air so boost gets backed up and affects spool. 9 blade turbine wheel will help release the back pressure. I'll be curious to see your power curve. Hopefully, it won't be too much laggier than an FP Black.

Perhaps so but from the research I have done I have seen pretty decent results, spool and power wise but those were mainly kinugawa and turbo lab variations. If I hit full boost between 4500-5k then I’ll be happy I guess. I’m really interested in the results tho especially since this is a ceramic dual ball bearing turbo and all others are journal bearing.

You won't feel or notice 50rpm quicker spool of a BB over a JB. From what I hear, 25G doesn't make enough more power than 20G to make it worth the extra (significant) lag.

We will find out when I install it and tune it. It should however make a bit more power than a 20g tho, I haven’t really been able to find a compressor map for a 25g but the inducer is 60mm with a 78mm exducer vs a 52mm inducer and 68mm exeucer on the 20g. Not to mention most 20g turbos have a td06sl2 turbine wheel vs the td06hr turbine wheel in this 25g. But I guess we will see what it puts down and what kinda power band it will have.

Can't wait to see the results and drive ability of this turbo. By the way, does a magnet stick to the housing on the hotside? Good luck!

I'm curious to see the results as well. This turbo is similar to my 3B as far as compressor wheel goes but the turbine is a decent amount larger. I'm usually at full boost around 3800. I think the results will be pretty solid.

Magnets stick to MHI housings so that won't tell him anything. The MHI stuff has a mitsu logo on it and I doubt they're using MHI. Either way, there are companies that cast the stock housing in Ni resist which is a nickel steel alloy similar to what the stock housing is made of.

I have not tried to see if a magnet sticks but I know for a fact that it’s not an mhi hotside, the casting is a lot smoother internally and externally, I’ll post some pics tomorrow.

I apologize for not updating but I have been busy with work and no spare time for the car. I’m working on finishing porting my FP cast manifold then I wanna port the hotside of the turbo, before I port it I will post pics of what it looks like.

Put a magnet to the hotside today, it did not stick. Took more pictures today of whats in the box. Aside for the turbo you get a tshirt, an assortment pack of springs for the wastegate and a tool to change the springs, a rewards card, a warning/disclaimer label, a summary of the balancing report, and an evo 9 installation kit.
