If you're going to move every single thread I start
Then maybe you should define the descriptions of the forums better. This thread: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=59492 gets moved from Evo General to Off Topic. The purpose of the thread is to let Evo owners know that there are decent diecasts available now.
Evom's description of Evo General is as follows: Discuss any general Evo related topics that may not fit into the other forums listed above. Please do not post tech and rumor threads here. Talk about daily events, or other items not really related to the Lancer in any way. |
i dont mind it being moved...
but could you atleast notify me about where it was moved too via a PM? i have posted topics before i dont even know what ever happend to them.... {pcfreak}

UFO - I agree with you, and being a denizen of OT, I don't like how many Evo/Lancer related threads get moved into OT. I also don't like how there's usually no explanation by the mover. The only thing I can think of is that the thread title mislead a moderator into thinking it was a general die-cast post.

You don't have to search to find them. Click your username and then find the post in there under all posts. It should be fairly recent.
On another note, we move a lot of threads. There's a lot of stuff out there that's misplaced. Stopping to notify a poster or all posters in a thread generally is not an option. I've already asked Mark if vB has an auto-notify function, but I haven't seen if he responded yet. Doing it manually in most situations is more trouble than it's worth. Especially if you move multiple threads, then have to argue with multiple thread starters about why their threads were moved. I'm also trying to see if we can get a tag attached to threads naming the moderator who moved the threads. I don't really know the limits of vBulletin, nor Mark's coding ability and time constraints, but I figure it can't hurt to ask. :p EDIT: FWIW I probably would have moved it there too because it doesn't relate to the Evo so much as it relates to the Evo's model. And again I have to comment that whether people see it is not the primary concern (though I understand that's not the crux of your argument). |
ya the worst part about them moving the threads around is you never can find it again except for searching for hours.
and then when you search for the threads name in the Search button, you dont get the thread right away, the search button im pretty sure doesnt look for thread titles it looks for key words in the thread. so it makes it even harder to find your moved or redirected thread. |
Chances are if it's a thread on suspension in a general forum then you'll find it in the suspension forum. Chances are if it's a thread on birthday cake in the how to/install forum then you'll find it in off topic. I think the vast majority of moved threads are either reposts (Newbie forum) or clearly in the wrong forum. It should be pretty easy to track down most of them. We COULD leave redirects, but then we get complaints that there are pages of redirects (especially in general forums where people seem to just post everything). Personally I hate the redirects more than I hate the complaints.
|
ya i agree its kind of a waste to leave pages with redirects, and also agree that it would be really teadious to send e-mails to everyone you redirect, but it would be cool if vB had some sort of way to letting us know.
I guess we will all just have to live with it until something better comes along. |

In most cases you will get a pm from a Moderator when a post is moved. But this is not 100%.
I believe Mark (KK) is working to get more descriptive text to put beneath the forum titles. But until this happens, the Evo General forum = non tech stuff regarding the Car. Off-topic = everything else. Moderating forums is a very subjective task. Something that one Mod thinks is appropriate for a forum, another thinks is not. There really can be no hardfast rules that can apply across the board here, unfortunately. So if you happen to have your thread moved and you don't think it was a good move, appeal to a Moderator. Most of us are very happy to hear from you and will listen with open ears. SC~ |
Owning a die cast isn't specific to Evo 8 owners. I'm sure several Lancer or non-Mitsubishi drivers would like them as well. :dunno: I understand your intent, but please understand our need for organization. I can understand why you felt it should be in Evo General, and I do think there is a certain unavoidable grey area where some threads' locations are questionable. However I do not believe that a thread on miniatures/RC cars/models etc. should be in the Evo General forum.
Originally posted by UFO People seeing it obviously a big concern, why would I post here if I didn't want people to see what I wrote? I never visit off-topic and only ever visit the Evo forums really. My intention for posting it was to let Evo owners know there is finally a decent 8 diecast available, so it would have been nice if it stayed in Evo General instead of off-topic where it has now just become a free post fest. Like I said, the descriptions for the forums lead me to believe Evo General is the right place for it. Eh, whatever, I have more important things to worry about. |

Originally posted by HobieKopek And yes, absoluuuutely. In fact I think this method is far more constructive and beneficial to getting things done than posting complaint threads (No offense to you UFO and I don't mean to single you out because this happens with a certain degree of frequency). I think contacting us on a one-to-one basis usually gets things done the fastest and with the least amount of hassle. You can always appeal to a higher court if you feel you've been ignored too. ...Unless Mark tells you no. Then you're screwed. ;) j/p |
Originally posted by UFO The original purpose of my thread was to state that the descriptions of the forums suck. I guess this is anothe case of me being mislead by the descriptions then because I thought this forum was for site feedback. maybe I should have posted in the wheels & tyres forum? You're getting feedback and your suggestion has most certainly been noted. I can only assume that was said tongue in cheek, but there's no need to get nasty about it. :p |
Originally posted by HobieKopek I'm sorry. I did get a bit off track. Like Ralph said though we think Mark is already looking into changing some (I think most of them are pretty clear cut, but general forums and a few others could certainly us a rephrasing) of the forum descriptions to more accurately describe their content, both actual and intended. You're getting feedback and your suggestion has most certainly been noted. I can only assume that was said tongue in cheek, but there's no need to get nasty about it. :p |
