What is autocross? From the Wikipedia - Autocross is a form of motorsports that emphasizes safe, low-cost competition and active participation. An autocross is a timed competition where drivers navigate one at a time through a temporary course marked by traffic cones, rather than racing on a track with multiple other cars, as in road racing or oval racing. Autocross tends to place more emphasis on car handling and driver skill than on sheer horsepower, and events typically have many classes which allow almost any vehicle, from economy sedans to purpose-built vehicles, to compete. Speeds are slower in absolute terms when compared to other forms of motorsports, usually not exceeding highway speeds, but the activity level (measured in discrete turns per minute) can be higher than even Formula One due to the large number of elements packed into each course. Autocross courses are typically 40 to 70 seconds in length. In addition to being a national-level motorsport in its own right, autocrossing is a good way to learn skills that transfer to road racing, as drivers learn vehicle control and club ethics.
Autocross events are usually held in large paved areas like parking lots or airfields. Typically, new courses are created for each event so drivers must learn a new course each time they compete. Prior to driving, a competitor will walk the course, taking mental notes, and developing a strategy to be refined upon subsequent runs. National organizations such as the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and National Auto Sport Association (NASA) sponsor autocross events throughout the United States, and many areas have independent autocross clubs. Automobile manufacturers and their associated clubs (e.g. the BMW Car Club of America) sometimes hold marque autocross events
So check out the above links, read, ask questions, pre-register online or show up in the morning with your $35 (prices vary - please verify) and have some serious fun in a safe competitive environment.
In case you're wondering - anyone can run with any of the above clubs. You don't need a porsche to run in the porsche club or a BMW to run in the BMW club, etc. They are just the clubs hosting the events and all cars are welcome.

I just bought a helmet last month and have only had a chance to use it once. I'm planning on getting my money's worth. I'm going to the SCCA event at Pennington Field in Bedford. on the 15th.
Anyone interested in going to Bedford? Only cost you $40 (for non SCCA members) and it so much fun to see how you stack up as a driver both in your class and in the PAX.

Ok, so I'm registered online for this Sunday's SCCA autocross in Bedford.
Anyone else interested in going? Shiumanchu? Chad99evo? All you other Evo racers and trackers out there...

I would go, except it's father's day, plus I'm doing an airport run. I might check it out on the way back though, just to see the course and the turnout.
+1 for getting your own helmet. I've used the loaners the last few times since my old MC helmets Snell rating expired. On hot days those loaners can get a bit ... funky...
Hmm, a new helmet, now *there's* a father's day gift idea!

A note on helmets:
All helmets meeting the current or two immediately preceding Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M) or SFI standards 31.1A, 21.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A are acceptable. Look inside the helmet for a sticker. It will have a Snell Sticker with a year date or certification.
Suggested place to purchase:
While you can buy one at a local bike or ATV store, you'll probably pay from $140 to $170 for a full-faced snell helmet. I bought mine from http://stores.ebay.com/Riders-Direct for $80 plus shipping. Best deal I could find. Just be ready to wait 2 weeks for it to arrive though.

I have to try a helmet on. When I bought my ski/snowboard helmet I had to try on about 15 to find one that fit right. It was even worse finding boots (they don't come in 11EE/EEEE -- imagine that).
Once I've been in a retailer long enough to try on 15 helmets I feel obligated to buy there if they've helped at all.

I figured out how to switch the upper shock bolt from the -1 degree camber position to the -2 degree camber position. I can't wait to see what it'll do this weekend now. That combined with my developing "left foot braking" skills -- it should be interesting.

Hey all, just wanted to share with you all a short little video of me lifting the rear tires in a hard turn. Just something cool to watch.

Nice 3 wheelin' action! Someday, were you running stock or ST? Can't tell from the vid. That course looks fast, or was it just short? I hope to be out at the ER event next week, and they sometimes put in a little boxed in hairpin / mini skidpad.
I'll either be there with the Evo (yay!) but for fun runs only, unless I can get a KevinD tune, and all my parts installed this week.
