Whats the difference in these downpipes?

Everyone,

It seems like Christmas around my house for buying parts for my MR X. But hey, if you make it, spend it! You never know when its your time to check out from the big man up stairs.

Anyway, I'm starting to look at exhaust systems and down pipes. Starting at the down pipe:

Whats the differece between the these two down pipes besides the first one having the addtional O2 housing connected to the down pipe? Is there benifits for connecting the two? Goofy you might be able to answer this one cause I know you have it.

Also, what happens to the stock O2 pipe (or whatever is there) if you get the second downpipe listed? Will there be basically two pipes coming off the turbo? 1 for the O2 (stock piece) and the new aftermarket peice?

Thanks for you comments.

#1 replaces the downpipe and o2 housing, #2 is just the downpipe. If you get #2 the stock o2 housing stays on the car.

Having not done a lot work on the X, I do not know how often you would have to take the DP off. With the 8 and 9s I would never put a dp on that integrates the o2 housing because the DP has to come off all the time when working on the 8s and 9s. The X has the turbo in the back so it may or may not have to come off as much, there for I would consider getting the DP with the integrated o2 housing. Georgie bought the integrated one for his X MR, I believe it worked out really nicely for him....

Is there any additional performance gains from having the O2 and downpipe integrated?

I don't plain on doing that much to the car, just exhaust, intake, I/C piping, etc.., nothing hardcore, so I assume I will not have to take off the downpipe at all once its installed.

I really like the idea of the integrated. I don't know that there are big gains, but anything you can do to open up the flow is a good thing. The other advantage is, it is one less thing to buy, you are covering your o2 housing upgrade and you DP upgrade at one time.....

Also, less joints, and gaskets, less prone to leak...

Well, the AMS o2 housing looks pretty neat *but* it's not out yet (plus I have a problem with their attitude -- same with Robi). It is a cast piece with a nice big opening.

The UR o2 housing is welded.

From what I understand, the downpipe alone nets 0 HP.

From URs site, it looks like the o2 housing/downpipe combo nets 9hp and 9ft# tq.

It is not what I would call a simple install either.

If you order the UR stuff, make sure to pay the extra $20 and get a wideband bung installed so that if you ever tune the car you have a port ready to go to put the wideband sensor in.

Also, think about a test pipe or HFC. The stock cat is VERY restrictive.

I will say though, that you are going a bit crazy with parts from every vendor (not that I am one to talk). You might think about what you are looking for and seeing if one vendor's package would work better for you. Since you went with the Buscher intake, maybe you should look at the Buscher quiet dual exhaust. I don't know if Buscher offers a test pipe, down pipe and o2 housing, but normally gains are quoted for a complete system (or the ghey "stage x" upgrade venacular).

^ Goofy, the staged plan from Buschur is the route I'm going for. Since I will ultimately get a tune from KevinD once the EVO X software is released, I called and talked with Buschur Racing about substituting the mail in flash for both the lower and upper intercooler piping. And they can do it!

But I have yet to see Buschur's downpipe or test pipe. I thought I have read some where on the forums that buschur does have a test pipe its just not up on the website yet. I will look into it. But yes, I will go full Buschur on everything I can. But with UR having the o2 housing and downpipe as an integrated peice, I just might have to get that. But we will see, maybe Buschur will come out with a combo peice by the time a get an exhaust.

URs downpipe/o2 housing will bolt onto most testpipes/hfc/cats (since it'll bolt to the stock piece.

Just be wary of systems like the agency power (I think) that are different at every joint, so they don't play well with others.
