ALABAMA.. who is all here?
well linux!! a 264 cam is BARELY larger then stock... i would honestly go with a bigger car, you have a big turbo, trying to flow alot, but your head is restricting it!!! if you want to stay with hks you can do the 280 with no springs and retainers, or do the kelford 272s, NEVER EVER go wrong there!!
try playing with your NLTS as well, playing with different loads and what not that might help a bit as well... add some timing, more boost doesnt nessicarily mean more power!! you just have to find where your car is making the most and play with some other thigns!! oh and ditch the EBC and get a manual!!!!!

I have no brand loyalty at this stage in the game, and while the evo might ultimately unseat the volvo as the race toy, I am trying to keep it relatively mild mannered. I think the kelfords will be a good match, or the gsc-s2's with springs and retainers. I'm still not really convinced that the cams are the whole problem, but I've been wrong before..

sorry more of us didn't come down but most of the Evos i know are not really into drag racing, more autox and track days. plus we had an event the day before. maybe next year we can make it down and chill out with you guys if it's possible to chill.
any of you guys are welcome to come over and hang out if you're in town... got a pool, a hot tub(well, when its full. its getting cleaned after memorial day), grill, and occasionally enough beer to go around. better bring your asbestoes socks tho, the trash talking can apparently get pretty deep
WHAT?
why would he ditch an EBC? I've got ECU controlled boost and it's awesome, hell my old Greddy EBC was great compared to my old hallman.
The only reason I could see going back to a manual is if you can't handle learning the system.

What with all this loving, 4 pages of thrash talkin?? dang. maybe we just need to organize an EVO drag night to settle all this.
I'm not big on drag racing, my best time with near stock set up was 13.2...

). I love my ebc's, if I get rid of the profec on the evo, I'll be going to ecu direct. I don't hate mbc's, built and run several of them in my earlier volvo days, but they're obnoxious when you're trying to do a couple different things on the fly.
I have one of the rare greddy profec's that has the bad firmware, so I've been monkeying with it a little bit to get it to do what I want in terms of boost. Control over it is fine, I don't have any problems there (I can turn a knob without issues

I have a profec B spec II laying around that you're welcome to try out to see if it fixes the issue.
it's not really the knob turning that I've seen confuse people, it's more of dealing with duty cycle and the ramp up rates, etc...
I've got ECU boost on my AEM, it's a bit more complicated than turning a knob, but it's sweet once you figure it out. I'm going to have it wired in where when my meth pump gets pressure, it'll automatically turn my boost up. no pressure == no more boost == no go boom

2 bar would require an upgrade at a later date, and another gauge pod. Slick looking controller tho, kinda like the AEM truboost.
on the quest to check for things that might be wrong I have discovered a couple of things, and changed a couple of things--- the screen in the maf is twisted and not quite right any more (heh), I now have the stiffest spring and a pair of shims in the forge cbv, we'll see if that makes a difference. Air filter was nasty again, so its drying off now. Weather permitting, I'll pull the throttle body off and clean it (needs it anyway) and see if anything looks sketch in there. I hear tell of leaking tb shaft seals?
After more thought on the issue, while the cams that are in the car are not a good match for the turbo and intended powerband (264/272 hks's, got the car to trap around 114 with the stock turbo, but leave something to be desired now), I can't believe they are the only reason its not 'measuring up'. I'm going to run through these things and make a couple passes friday to see where things are at, if it doesn't improve then I'm not sure what to do. Compression test and leakdown I reckon, but it runs entirely too well to have something mechanically deficient going on in the bottom end.
Ah the joys of fast cars. On the flip side, I just picked up the head for the volvo from the machine shop, it ought to be going back together and in the car perhaps in the next month. Its always good to have a track **** :-D

i believe that is a big part of it, the cams, that is why my car just didnt seem as fast as it should be, but i was on stock cams, but a 264 isnt much bigger!! you will be amazed what it does for you!!
do a boost leak test, that will tell you if its in your TB and anywhere else!1

man i missed a bunch of post yesterday! you drag racers are a bit too serious for my taste. LOL it's all just a game, just a race no life or death situation.

i jus got stationed in MS feb08... In california there is no such thing as drag, strictly roadrace+autox, so my car was bone stock(motor wise)... i only drag when i get a new power mod to see if i wasted my money or not
, but i go to my local drag everyweek, not to run, just to catch a random *** mitsu that shows up from outer space haha
barber's is very nice, there's a smaller track in munford that is a lot of fun (and usually cheaper for a track day than either barber's or road atlanta). I have not been to No problem, but I hear its pretty decent too. Hopefully some others can chime in on it.
