I finally retired the stock pistons last year with the nitrous mishap, otherwise this video would have been out 9 months ago

technically its just rods n pistons in the bottom end

I thought for sure you'd be rockin' a manual in that thing, why still the auto? are they stronger than the fwd 5 speeds?

its always been an auto.. never cared to upgrade, and its been holdin strong.. figured i could build it a little and see what it can actually handle.. not many lancers beyond 300hp anyways.. i just dont see how a 5spd would help me with racing other then it might be able to handle more power. ive always manually shifted for it and/or lifted a little in shifts to help it catch the next gear..

both the auto and manual are considered ok up to about 250hp.. there is a "stage 2" "tre" i think... 5spd.. thats suppose to be able to handle alot more power.. but.. i think at this point, a 5spd would be just a hinderance to my car.. but who knows.. i might do a trq converter and the trans might fail.. everything on my car is kinda experimental.. only 5 or 6 lancers i know of past the 300hp.. (couple 4g93 mirages in the 450-600 range, and its the same motor with less displacement ' technically')

ill have pistons/rods installed by the end of november.. and retune at 14-16psi with e85.. ill upgrade the trq converter then atleast, and maybe someone can put together some type of shift kit for it.. i donno much about the tranny stuff.. its lasted threw 113k miles of straight abuse.. and the past 13k has been maken double the stock horsepower.. so i just dont see a reason to swap the trans yet, just build it, its been workin just fine so far.

hopefully after IFO my car will be down and out for all of november as Q and i take my car to the next level. definatelly gunna break into the 12s before newyears, its my goal

try shimming and/or locking the accumulators in the transmission, it'll lessen the time it takes to shift.

yes it is. The transmission that's in it is torn up, it lasted about 14 hours from install, and mayyyybe 20 miles, 4 passes down the track. I'm swapping in a gm auto now.

It used to have a world class t5 in it from a mustang (two, actually), but clutches and transmissions got expensive quick when it roached the second clutch and second transmission two months apart. at ~400 per trans, and then another 4-500 for the clutch, it was too expensive to continue that trend. The people that are making similar power to me are still having clutch and transmission issues, so I went with something I could at least get from pullapart for $70 a pop.

if I was content with around 400hp, I don't think the transmissions would eat themselves nearly as fast, but as it sits, even if I spent the time and money to build the volvo auto to hold the power I'm making now, it'll just turn around and eat **** as soon as I turn it up.

Thats part of why I was asking about yours, it wasn't as much a criticism as just a question, I didn't know if you were going through them or not. Couple tips if you're going to stay auto:

big trans cooler
shim the accumulators
see about getting the line pressure to stay up. if its got an electronic line pressure solenoid, put a switch on it when you're racing so you can lock it to full pressure, it'll keep things around longer that way.

ya. definatelly gunna be on the top of my list.. ive gotten a couple different suggestions from people. figured i could build this trans and see what happends, if it doesnt seem to workout at all, then ill go ahead and swap to a stage 2 5spd.. not really looking forward to trans work, i dont have much experience at all with messing with the internals of a trans.. so it will hurt my pocket book for sure.

so whats failed on both your trans's that only lasted so shortly...

on the T5's, it was popping the input shaft support bearings on a hard launch, which would then tear up everything else in the transmission in relative short order. clutches were simply not holding. the first one was me over-running the expected power, the second just never really worked from the word go.

on the autos, its simply blowing away the clutches, there isn't enough surface area in the hubs in the transmission to hang on to what its doing. I'm a little worried that if I got the hubs up to par, other things would break inside the transmission, so it seems like as good a time as any to segue to the gm stuff.

if you can get a spare auto from the jy relatively cheaply, jump in and take a look, they're not nearly as intimidating as a 5 speed in terms of how things go together, they basically just stack in there one after another and various combinations of clutches and brakes drive or over drive various planetary gears.
they do make a mess though.

--Procco-- Thnxx for the invite.

We just might have to come by and check out the new item on your Menu at the Proccolino's Pizza---->

Going from a 42R to this you must have something up your sleeve.

I think allot of us are trying to do Import Faceoff in Montgomery, but speaking for myself my Evo might not be 100% by then. However; A drive down to Orlando might just be the ticket. let me see what I can come up with. Would luv to See Little Rico, and the CFT boys, Jester, and see the new Procco setup.

What you think guys? maybe Orlando?
