Successful fender rolling.

Sigh.. came to the realization that my new rubber and wheels are a hair too wide for my rear fenders with potential contact happening when there are people in the back seat and going over bumps.

I have seen alot of hack jobs in my time in terms of fender rolling, has anyone successfully done this on the lancer? or know a shop who can do this. Without butchering the car. lol

If not, I am going to likely sell my 225 /45 /18 at a discount and opt for the OEM spec 215/45/18. sigh....

mind you, my wheels are 18x8 so this is the only reason why I am encountering this problem. Anyone running normal sized rims like 7" or 7.5" wont have this problem.

sigh...

scroll straight to the bot. There's a picture of the tool.
It's a real proper tool. Goes right into your rotor bolts and just start cranking!

$50/day rental. Worth it if you ask me.

its not really that hard.. go slow, roll a little bit at a time. rent the tool and be done with it..

I did it on my 2g and it turned out fine..

I would also recommend on doing it on a hot day.. maybe like 25 degrees if not warmer..
this way you wont have to heat the paint with a heat gun.. which is sketchy to me since I wouldn't want to cook my paint..

wait for a hot day and your paint will be soft enough to do this..

my take, good luck

mitek in kitchener did my for the evo, they brought it out half an inch as well, no paint cracking, and they rolled it perfectly, so it contours to the lines of the car, you cannot even tell its rolled, but they charge 200 per pair, and usually booked, so its a month wait, but they do a great job

OP,

I'm in the same situation you're in. I got new wheels and rubber and got them mounted a week ago, and likewise I'm noticing rubbing in the rears when I have 4 people in the car and/or hit bumps. I'm running 245/45/17 Cooper Zeons on 17x8 ASA AR1 wheels...so by my calculations even tho I have 17's and you have 18's, my wider tires end up actually being 263.5 cm top to bottom and yours about 248 cm top to bottom. Don't know what your rubbing is like but its taking chunks out of my sidewall anytime I have a passenger. I'm going to take care of this ASAP, I found a local shop that will do fender rolls for $40 a fender and pulls for $20-30 a wheel depending on time. I might just have them roll AND pull my rears so I never have to worry about clearance again. I will keep you updating and post pictures after I get it done. Would like to do it this wknd but I'm waiting to hear back from the shop (www.area1320.com)
