Golf R coming to North america
I thought i would share this with you guys. Looks like the Golf R is headed our way and with its 2.0l turbo engine putting out 270hp and 260 lb-ft torque. Not to mention its AWD and much lighter then the evo. This looks like it could be a big competitor to the evo and sti. If priced right the golf R could easily put the presure on its competitors. What do you think? here is the link for more info

I think it's great to finally get a high performance awd Golf here. And definitely it'll distract some potential EVO and STi buyers. But how will it perform tho? I have this feeling that while it'll probably perform great... that it won't perform like an EVO.
But for people that want some performance and a luxury interior... I could definitely see them going for this.

A German magazine compared the VW Golf R to the BMW 135i. They put the VW on top! They say that even tho the BMW performs better... it's not that much better to justify the price difference.

Its still a golf-looking golf...R or not, just based on style I dislike all hatchbacks. But I might say, sitting in my friends 08 GTI I almost fell asleep. The car is much more comfortable and refined than our car thats for sure.

The GTi definitely has a really nice interior for it's class. Then again... it's not exactly cheap either... it starts around $30,000. If you option it up... you are pretty much into EVO X GSR territory! And you ain't gonna get EVO X GSR performance out of it.
I guess it comes down to priorities...
Personally I don't care if the GTi is a hatch... even tho I prefer sedans. If VW takes the GTI and just adds more performance... I think this Golf-R will be great.
