That sucks... I have a buddy sending his off soon too... Maybe they kept yours and to save down time, they sent you one that was already 'rebuilt' previously that they had? :Shrugs: Hope things get worked out!

^^^thats what I think happened... A lot if shop do that. Even when you buy a rebuilt motor. They usually give you a different block. I think that's do wrong on so many levels! But unless you know the owner or builder, or are at the shop everyday checking on the progress of your build, unfortunately you never know what u get....
Im sending shep my Trans cause a local shop rebuilt it. and in the same case like yours I believe they game me someone else's trans. Well it's now broken but I can't prove anything... So u learn from your mistakes.
Btw thank god for credit cards Hu?

Crappy stuff man.
This seems very weird to me. Did you get charged for a new ring and pinion or not? If so, there is no way they would tell you they put the original one back in.
Also, who did the work installing the Transfer Case? TC's are a bit of a ***** to fill properly.

Im putting it out there im sure its happened to other people on this board here but im actually speaking up about it and its not right at all.

unfortunately, without any input from shep, you send your trans and they give you a "remanufactured" replacement which makes business sense because there is no downtime, waiting etc. unless you marked your part which I do if there is a possibility for switcheroo, it was probably somebody else's part.

Sending a remanufactured replacement wasnt likely in my case they did not have any available due to everyone ordering some around that time and due to evo and sti day where people were at the track and shops were ordering up some I had to wait 3 weeks for the downtime for them to check mine out and send it back out to me.
Would you like it if someone sent you back a rebuilt tcase which you paid for that never whined but you did it to safeguard yourself and instead your tcase got messed up in the process I dont think you would. The same individual that had his car in there too told me the same thing and I saw it too his tcase was all nicely resprayed and he had to send his back his car is still in the shop I marked mine with an x with a yellow marker distinctively and I trust the guy. But as far as shep I wont deal with them again im sorry I think I will try another shop thats local too me or try with someone else that is more savy imo. Ive heard a few tcase and transmission errors by them too dont believe me check for yourself.

Ah, I should have noticed that. I hope the original poster does know that the ACD is a little trickier than a non-acd to fill the case properly etc. I'm not saying he didn't but a long time ago I had the same issue. I took it around the block, had a little whine, and came back to add fluid. I had no issues with my Shep tcase and transmission and would not hesitate for a second to purchase from them again. As far as Shep being honest, let me tell you a story:
I purchased a 300 tcase core that needed rebuild. It went straight from the seller to shep so I never seen it. Shep calls me up when he received it to ask me how much I paid. I told him $300. At this point I'm thinking worst case scenario this thing isnt rebuildable. He then says there is a surprise inside. Again, I think the thing is in pieces! He proceeds to tell me there is a quaiffe inside. Huge score for me. However, he did say it needed replacement. Even though I purchased the tcase used from another party, he had the quaiffe replaced for me NO CHARGE. So basically I got a Quaiffe differential for FREE! Shep could have been dishonest and not even told me about the Quaiffe and kept it for himself. He also went the extra mile to exchange it for me under warranty. Not to mention, when I got everything back, I couldn't believe how good the trans felt and the car performed. Thats a winner all around. I'm sorry if you feel you got shafted, but my experience was exactly the opposite.

I've had my Shep trans for over two years and it has performed exactly the way I wanted it to. I just had my t-case rebuilt by Shep in late December early January...was installed and filled correctly with 1 full quart of Mitsu Diaqueen, drove it for a few miles, then pull the fill plug to let out the excess fluid. I'm at 3k miles or so and no issues at all. I have a IX so obviously it's an ACD case.
Too bad to hear about your experience but nobody is perfect, no part is perfect. Things go wrong. Shep also rebuilt my brothers 1G fwd trans about 5 years ago and we never had a problem.
Shep has been building transmissions for a long time and has proven time and time again he's one of, if not the best trans builder for DSM's and EVO's. I'll be going back to him for all my trans and t-case rebuilds.

Well I wont good for them I dont really care for them im just mearly exposing my experience with them. I rather get mine built from someone elses shop locally. Not ragging on them but its hard to believe that one company wont answer or honor their work at all you can keep dealing with them until it happens then youll understand what im saying.
Once everything is said and done im going to post pictures if I can get some if the meachinic has time for me to come through and take pictures whiles it's open. Never again will I deal with them never again.
