GrimmSpeed Port and Polish and Coat review
My first encounter with GrimmSpeed was when I previously had a 2013 Subaru BRZ. I was introduced to see some of their work and I was amazed at all of the quality level of polishing on all of their products. Months later, I got into an accident with the BRZ and had to get a new car which is the EVO VIII RS that I currently own now.
GrimmSpeed is extremely popular in the Subaru world, and they are well regarded in not just porting and polishing, but also manufacturing various components such as exhaust, thick durable gaskets, lightweight pulleys and much more! They are still a very young company, and within this short timeframe have produced respectable products.
When I took my car for a tune, I was told from my tuner Ron @ RS Motors that my car had a leaky exhaust manifold. No ****, it was bad! He recommended the stock exhaust manifold but didnt give a reason why(cause I forgot to ask), my guess is because of durability and grenade proof over any other aftermarket exhaust manifold.
So I had to make a choice, just slap on an OEM exhaust manifold, or get it port and polish, I chose the latter. So I called GrimmSpeed, asked if they can get started on the project, it turns out they already have an OEM exhaust manifold sitting around so they can get started right away without me needing to send in one, I just have to pay a core charge fee of $200 until I give them an OEM manifold then they will refund that full amount back to me. I placed my order and it took 3 weeks to get it port & polish and coated.
Today is the day, I finally picked up my exhaust manifold at GrimmSpeed and I am amazed at how much different it looked from the OEM one. The runners have not only been shaved to allow more airflow, but I was more impressed at how smooth the runners were from inside out. You can definitely tell a difference when you compare the two next to each other. Here are some pictures with a ruler to compare how the differences are.
Here are the comparison between the two.
The differences between the runners..
The distances between each one of them.
I have not installed the exhaust manifold yet, and I will probably not do a before and after hp/tq comparison due to 'personal' financial reasons. I do know that as of right now I dont get full boost until 4,300RPM with the way my car is setup right now. My main goal is to lower that number and this exhaust manifold is looking very promising. Stay tuned
