Volt Freaks 3lb Battery, Yes I said 3lb's !!
 

Normally when someone asks you which weighs more, the shoes on your feet or the battery in your car its and easy answer, not the case anymore.

In the never ending quest to shed weight from my car I came across a 3lb battery. It uses nanolithium technology which allows the battery to be super small yet still provide plenty of power to start your car. I got it from Voltfreaks. It appears that they no longer sell this exact battery but you can get a very similar one here Link

I ordered the 3lb battery, extension cables, and ring terminals.

I threw it on the scale just to check, it came in at 3.135 lbs.

I started off the install by removing the car post connector from the stock wiring harness, just remove the bolt on the top that you see.

I then replaced that connector with one end of the extension cable using the nut and bolt provided.

The I simply used one of the provided zip-ties to hold the battery in place, its so light a zip tie will easily secure it in place. Then I connected the other end of the extension cable to the positive terminal. And finally connect the stock negative connector to the negative terminal on the battery.

The great thing about this battery is since it so damm small and you can buy the ring terminals and extension cables the install possibilities are endless. You can really mount it any way you want.

So far it has started the car fine with no hesitation. It has worked just as well as the 13lb mini battery I used to have in the car. Right now the temps outside are in the low 40's but when I go back to school near Albany they will quickly drop to 10 degrees. I will be sure to update this thread and let you know how it performed in those extreme conditions.

Also, I should mention the quality of this item, its amazing. The terminals are thick gold plated terminals and the extension cables are heavy duty gauge wire with a protective sheath around them. You can tell a lot of thought went into this product.{thumbup}

Update - Well I have finally managed to find a situation in which the battery would not start the car. I had to go nearly two weeks without driving the car to get the battery to die. Even after a week of not driving it would still start up and I wanted to see just how far I could push this battery, well it has certainly surpassed the MFG claims and I could not be happier.

I've been waiting for someone in 'Our Community' to get this and test it. Great job dudical26.

Just wanted to give an update after a couple days. Still working and going strong.

yeah, seems risky up here in the NE, but winter is upon us, so you're going to be the ultimate guinea pig!!

Oh, and $400.00 is a lot of cheese for a battery. How much is that lb per dollar, over the stock battery.
