My last day
My last day
Hey guys, some of you already know, but for those of you who don't, my last day here at Vishnu is Friday. I've had many great opportunities working here at Vishnu, getting to go to events that I otherwise would never have the chance to see. Car and Driver Supertuner Challenge and the SCC Evo Orgy are among my favorites
Working with Shiv has been awesome, I've become really good friends with him, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I do admit there were some stressful times, but that adds to all the excitement!
He is by far the coolest boss I've ever had, and an awesome friend.
Since working here, I've met more than a few of my customers and some of which I've become pretty good friends with. Tom(Smogrunner) , Evan(ez76) and Seth(Noize) I have come to know pretty darn well, and I am so very grateful that I have come to know them so well. Regardless, all of my customers have been awesome, I just wanted to let all of you know how great it has been working with all of you.
If you're wondering why I'm leaving, well it's because awhile back I joined the Marine Corps. I wasn't supposed to ship out to boot camp until later next spring, but I put in a request to leave earlier and about 3-4 weeks ago my request went through and I found out that my date got changed to October 12. Some of you might ask "why?" and I have an answer for you. It has been something I've always wanted to do. Simple as that. Getting into detail, I'm setting my goals on becoming an aviator. I could've just finished off college and got a bachelors and then achieved my goal that way, but I wanted to get a taste of the enlisted side. I chose the job field of enlisted aviation; airborne radio operator, flight mechanic, loadmaster, and navigator are among the jobs I can get. Flying has always been a passion of mine, and becoming an aviator is a goal I'm going to work towards achieving.
Most people give me a surprised look when I tell them that I'm going into the Marines and then ask "what if they send you to Iraq?". Well, in all honesty, if I'm needed in Iraq, then so be it. I won't complain, as I knew what I could be in for when signing those papers. It's just that simple.
I'm definitely going to miss working here with Nick(been friends with him for years now), Dustin(also been friends with him for years now), Dave(have become good friends with him, such an awesome person) and finally Shiv(coolest boss and better friend), and then all of my customers, but the time has come for me to move onto my own thing. It has been great working with all of you!

Well I'm a Captain in the Army here in Iraq and we can always use a few more dedicated Soldiers and Marines to get the job done. Good luck in boot camp and good luck with your aspirations for aviation.
It seems that we are switching places in some ways. I'm getting out of the military and moving back home to the Bay Area. I have two young children now and I've served for 12 years, so I feel I've done my time. Perhaps we can really switch places and I can go to work for Shiv!
Come on Shiv, bachelors in marketing/advertising, masters in human resource management. Need a marketing guru/wrench/human resource manager/floor sweeper? How's about health care. Ready to take Vishnu to a new level (AEM/Edelbrock/HKS/etc.)?
I'll be available in June

A sad day, indeed.
But I'm really happy that you're chasing your dreams, Brian. Its been a blast getting to know you over the past several months. At least you'll be closer now; we'll have to meet in the middle at Dyno4mance and hang out! I wish you the very best, bro.

Good look Brian,
I remember talking to you about military aviation but I didnt think you would go this soon.I'm the guy in the NAVY that gave you a picture of 12+ Warfighter aircraft flying in formation. Now it's your turn to live this life of military aviation.I hope you enyoy the action!

I applaud your choice and admire your sense of service despite living in such a liberal part of our country. The Marines are a close knit brotherhood and you will experience a sense of camraderie and pride not found in any civilian workplace you'll ever go. The Marines hold a certain pride in their toughness, almost knowing by rote what to do, and this pride will hold them true when all else fails. You will bond with other men in ways you never imagined - not in a gay way, although it may sound gay - There's something about putting your life in anothers hand while you sleep and they pull sentry, an unwritten, explicit trust. And the friends you make under enemy fire will stay with you for your lifetime.
Trust me, as Cavalry Scout Platoon leader in Iraq during the war and afterwards for stability, I had the pleasure of working with more than my fair share of marines. You will also see firsthand how frustrating the military can be; soldiers that have no place being in the brotherhood of arms, officers not fit to lead themselves, much less anyone else, and leaders promoted one level past their competence. You'll learn to appreciate the phrase hurry up and wait, and you'll learn what it is to be the bastard child of a larger branch and get all your crap after the Army's done with it. I wish my soldiers in the Army were more like Marines, somehow they come out of basic a little tougher, with more pride and discipline, but that's another story.
I don't know how much money you make working for Shiv, but I damn sure know you didn't join for the money. Especially enlisted soldiers, they do all the work and get none of the glory or pay. Hopefully you're bright enough to only do it for a little while and then apply for officer candidate school. Aviation is tough, make sure you can pass a flight physical first though, otherwise everything is for naught. Hell, I saw top gun and wanted to be an aviator, but my ears weren't good enough so the army made me a tanker and I lost the rest of what little hearing I did have. The last thing is I hope that you're single. Joining the military as a married family man right now isn't the wisest thing to do. I've lived with my wife 7 months in the past three years. I was home from Iraq just long enough to get retrained, have surgery on my shoulder and be sent to Korea immediately. I too am getting out and leaving it to you younger guys. Godspeed and good luck.
