XFlash hitting 23.5psi! is it safe??
XFlash hitting 23.5psi! is it safe??
So I asked about this earlier, but nobody ever got back to me on this... I have a mail in XFlash for a Stage Zero+ '03 Evo (full exhaust, fuel pump, HKS intake pipe with stock box, Greddy TypeS BOV).
I recently got a Greddy V-SPL FMIC installed, which caused my boost to jump up to 23.5psi peak, holding until 5K before it starts to taper (and tapering to about.. 18-19psi?). I think the cold weather is also to blame for the high boost - but is it safe for me to be flooring the car around, or do I need to get my car reflashed?
I would like to invest in some cam gears soon, and get it custom flashed the next time Shiv plans to come to the east coast.

you should be safe if your only spiking till 5K. If I remember correctly, some ppl want it that way... If your worried about detonation I think your fine because I hit 23.4 psi in cold weather and did not det. but I was on 93 octane and it was about 50 degrees outside.
It gets cold around here.. currently in the low-mid 40's. I'm pretty sure it holds till 5K, but I will double check tomorrow and let you guys know. I don't know what detonation sounds like (*gasp*) so I'm not sure what to listen for...
Hm, okay.. took it out for a spin tonight, floored it in 4th on the freeway. Yeah, I definitely hit 1.75 bar = 25.4psi. Is THAT normal?? It was definitely cooler out tonight, about 38 degrees. I just don't want any engine damage!
However, since the XFlash still uses the stock knock sensor, if the car is knocking, the ECU should just retard timing so that my car will still be in good shape, right?

your knock sensor won't really allow you to hurt too much, atleast i don't think it will. and your boost gauge is probably off, unless its electronic. i heard from the vishnu guys that 99% of the MECHANICAL boost gauges are off after 18psi....
your car isn't pulling timing is it?

Its a Defi electronic, with peak memory feature. So, I'm pretty sure it's on target. It peaks at 1.75 bar, and tapers down to 1.4 bar (25.4psi -> 20.5psi).
Prior to the intercooler upgrade, I was doing maybe on a cold night 23.5psi -> 18psi, but the IC has definitely pushed my boost up... I can't really tell if my car is pulling timing or not? My butt dyno is terribly ineffective.

Seriously though... I don't think hitting 25psi is normal by any means... but in any case, if someone from the shop could let me know whether this is excessive or not, and/if I should be worried about the engine knocking. If Shiv is coming back to the east coast anytime soon, I want to be #1 on that list for a custom tune.
Last night it was cold, very cold. I spiked to 29 for a sec and dropped down to 25 and held. I am sure it's fine but not very safe if you keep red lining the car.
I was playing with my MBC and re-installed all the hoses and so on as my first diagram was completely off (I had my BOV connected to my MBC and to the WG and, complete mess) I have no idea what was controlling boost and what’s not. After 2 hrs of perfect work I installed everything right but I still spiked to 28~29. in fact I installed the MBC in a different way to see what happens and I spike to 30 something maybe 40 I don’t know but of course I stopped right away.
I am telling you this because I want to let you that you are safe just don’t push it 24/7 in this cold weather.
oh well I have to fix my boost or I will blow up at 40PSI
