XEDE and AMS kits

Question for Shiv:

If I have AMS install a GT35 kit, can I use my XEDE to manage it? Do I have to retain the whole factory intake, or do I just have to retain MAF?

Yes Eric and Martin make a special adaptation to recirc the DV, and use stock airbox. They also include high pressure springs in the wastegate. Exhaust fitment only fits with AMS exhausts but they leave the DP unterminated so we or you can wels the proper flange. We have tuned quite a few AMS kits with the xede. Get 680 injectors too

That's nice to hear, but only 680 CC injectors? Seems pretty small

You can do 880s if you want to. But 680s will easily support 450bhp on pump gas and close to 600bhp on race gas.

I was gonna get 1000's ... just in case I ultimately end up with a setup similar to the AMS shop car. Would that cause problems?

Having to idle at 12:1 kinds sucks. The idea behind picking an injector is trying to get *just* the right size you will need. Going overkill on injectors does no purpose than degrade driveability.

So maybe if you are only running the GT35R and no 2.3L kit 880's would be the ticket. Then when you slap in the 2.3 crank would be a good time to jump to 1000 CC?

I agree 100%....It is amazing how many problems I see on the dyno that are caused by injectors being too large......
To date, I have only seen 1 car at the shop that the injectors were too small...
That was a 1800cc Civic running @16psi on a T3/04 on a 430cc injector..
I think the duty cycle was around 112%

Great info ... perfect illustration of why admitting that you (in this case me) don't know squat and asking is always a good policy. Guess I'll probably go with 880's, because I would really hate to have to upgrade them again at a later date.

That's just calculated duty cycle. It's not what the injector is actually doing. In this case, it's simply wide open/static.

With a 2.3 AND a GT35R, I think you would HAVE to use 880s. AMS recommends this size for their GT35R kit WITHOUT the 2.3.

Can the stock ECU scale injectors this size in conjuction with the Xede? Can this engine management give 480whp on Shiv's dyno and maintain truly stock-ish drivability?

Yep..... of course it is not possible to run an injector at 112% although this one actually was out of fuel at the top It wasn't until I sat down and figured the BSFC I realized what was going on...This is why it is really important on oddball cars to interogate the owner about his/her moddifications

having large injectors will slow your throttle response too. no need for over kill injectors.
