That's impressive. However isn't it more like "if" they release new Evo IX cams rather than "when" the release Evo IX cams. That whole MIVEC thing has got to be tough on aftermarket cam developers.

FWIW, on the highway, in 5th gear, the Stg 2 30R kit makes full boost by 3900rpm, not 4900. The dyno tends to make lag look worse than it is. It's like comparing a 3rd gear pull on the street to a 5th gear pull on the street. The turbo system hasn't changed, but the boost will come on a much lower RPM during the 5th gear pull. But even that is not going to be everyone's cup of tea. Even on a dynojet with heavy rollers, it'll reach max boost by 4400rpm or so. The 3071s are also nice although they are more appropriate for people who only plan to run pump gas since they don't have nearly as much flow capacity as the 3076/30R. Although they will surge a bit less at partial throttle and *potentially* make a bit more power on pump gas. If you're not going to run race gas at 30psi, the 3071 may be the right turbo for you.

Finally...you answered my question! In the past posts you kept mentioning the "30R", but which 30R variant was my question all along. I knew the 3076 was the key, or at least I had a feeling that was the answer. Looking at the compressor map it appears that the 3076 can have a tendency to surge. The thing is, is Garrett showing a map for a ported comp housing or not? IMHO, the surging will decrease significantly with the ported housing with very little ill effect on the overall efficiency of the turbo. That is unless I am looking at the map for the ported housing. Can anyone clarify this further? Attached is the map for the 3076-12

I don't have any problems with surging, but have a buddy with same setup that did. Only difference is mine is externally dumped and have the t04s cover. I know the t04s cover has anti surge ports.....
i posted this in another thread, but i want to see how you guys feel about this:
any idea how this turbo (Evo9-20g) would compare to the 3076 in overall performance? for instance, a car with all basic bolt ons, where the only difference is the turbo (evo9-20g vs 3076) on pump and alky. which turbo would outperform the other in 1/4 mile race and 40mph rolling race? trying to see which one would have the stronger and best overall powerband.

That compressor map is for a ported cover. I have a GT3076 w/ a ported cover w/ zero surge. I drive around all the time at 2000 RPM and can accelerate w/ no surge. Personally, I wouldn't buy a turbo without a ported cover for an EVO.
