Launching

I noticed that a lot of you IX guys have full torque around 3600 rpm and most have about 300, which is more than me. How does your clutch hold the power on launches?

What I've tried is to release the clutch to the point where the clutch begins to grab. Then I floor the gas. Once the rpm hits 3500, I slip it in trying to keep the revs at 3500. Only problem is it holds for about a second and then the clutch slips, so I short shifted to prevent further overheating. I got light clutch smell for 2 lights . I'll try again sometime next week, except I'll just slip it really fast at 3500-4000 rpm.

you have the stationary rev limit set at 5000rpm. no matter what it will bogg bad. with a flash you can set anywhere from 5600rpm and up. It will give you a perfect launch and no bogg. my is set at 5750rpm

ya buddy we arent driving 2WD here....

you need to launch at 5k or higher. some of us are limited to 5k cause it has the built in launch control(evo 8 2005+ models). others with the older ones can rev past 5k(2003 maybe some 04's not sure exactly).

how to use the launch control : if your car is 05+ clutch in, put it in 1st gear, bring the RPMS up to 5k and they should stay there(rev limited), then floor the car and they will continue to bounce at 5k. release the clutch pretty fast and launch!

note : to slow will burn it, to fast will bog. its better to bog than rape the clutch, so when first doing it release faster than slower. i reccomend close to a dump your first time then go from there.

yep, 03 and 04 stationary rev up to 7909rpm. my evo i have flash it mysefl with ECUFlash and set my at 5750rpm. slip your clutch, don't ever dump it or drop it like you are driving your honda, if you smell the clutch burn it's okay. Better clutch than your tranny anyway

on the stock clutch you dont have to worry about breaking the tranny.

worry about the tranny if you upgrade the clutch.

the stock clutch will go way before the transmission.

ill stick with what i said, releasing the clutch faster than slower and learn for yourself! !

I have the XEDE launch control set to 6k RPM. I depress the clutch, mash the gas to the boards, watch my boost gauge climb to about 12PSI, then simply dump the clutch and the car takes off like a raped ape. I'm still on the stock clutch so I'm not really worried about breaking anything. I'm at 30k miles and 320WHP on pump. When this clutch dies I'll probably put another stocker in.

This is what I'm going to try the next time someone lines up and wants some.

haha most of us are launching off the launch control which stock is 5k. sounds like you are using the REV LIMTER haha... you savage.

if you got earlier model they dont come with launch control, i suggust manually bouncing your RPMS around 6k then go from there. to each his own :P

I should note that I STILL HAVE THE RESTRICTOR PILL IN PLACE.

I'm not sure if its safe to dump the stock clutch with it removed.

bogging is way more destructive than slipping too much.. bogging is a great way to blow transfer cases. At least slipping only wears away clutch and flywheel. Breaking tc parts will end up costing 2500 dollars.

Is there a way to safely launch on the stock clutch without burning the hell out of it. The last two times I tried to launch it i smelled clutched pretty bad. The stock clutch is very weird. Sometimes during sprited driving I slip the clutch more than I would like without any smell and other times I get a horrible smell.

im curious about this too. would like to remove the restrictor pill and go SS line. Will this cause the car to launch differently?

Yes there is a way! Practice! Practice makes perfect! I'm not a pro at it or anything, but I have gotten my IX off the line with the 5k rev limiter in tact with no burn and no bogg. I set it at 4.5k and quick slip. I can't do it all the time but I can get it down most of the time. You just have to know your car and know how to drive it. Revving it higher will get you off the line faster, but I suggest practice slipping at lower RPMs until you get the hang of it.
