turbo spool quickness?

Ok, so i have a Stage 1+ tuned by Shiv. The boost doesn't come on full until about 3500 rpm, according to the dyno sheet, but my Greddy Boost Gauge shows full boost only at around 3800 or so. Now, unless there is a delay, something else may be wrong. Car still feels fast, but shouldn't my boost be coming on sooner?

more than likely the boost gauge is a little off. I would trust a dyno sheet over a boost gauge

Recheck your vacuum hoses leading to your gauge. Its worth a try anyway...

On the dyno, full boost is reached 200-300rpm later than it is on the road during a 4th gear low rpm lug. Pretty normal. Just has to do with how the engine is loaded and how fast the ramp-up rate is (the faster the ramp up rate, the slower the measured boost response).

Shiv, what do you think of the BB conversion discussion on the Engine/Turbo section of this site? Is it worth checking out? Seems like the price is right...

Shiv, so if boost comes earlier on the road than on the dyno, and my boost guage doesn't show full boost until 200-300 rpms or so LATER than the dyno sheet, is the gauge just showing a massive delay or what?

What kind of gauge do you have and what gear are you testing in?

i have a greddy 60mm electronic with peak hold and warning.

I first, second, third, AND fourth gears, i see this delay.

In fifth, however, boost seems to come on full by 3200-3300 rpms.

Wow, very interesting ... if I could get the turbo to spool up quicker and hit max boost earlier ... booyah!

I don't have an answer for you, to be honest. Sounds odd. But I don't think there is anything to worry about though.

Exactly! That's why I'm interested in it! I don't want a bigger turbo with more lag! I just want a little more boost and earlier spool... It appears to be fairly cheap as well. I think this plus a exhaust manifold would be a good addition to the 1+...

Yep, sounds like it would make a real nice Stage 1.5 kit (cams, tubular manifold, MR turbo w/ BB upgrade). Sounds like it would also be worthy of the "stealth" project Shiv and Co. have going with their silver Evo ... hint ... hint ... you try it, we buy it

Wouldn't that be 1.5+ kit?

No, I think it would be a "333ATW+" according to the new nomenclature....
