The APS isn't really 50/50 or 25/75 or any of that. If I could find a picture it would describe how it works. Basically there are two output ports - one recirc, one VTA. The VTA port is farther out than the recirc port. Under light boost it is mostly recirc, but if you hit full boost, the piston moves farther out, uncovering the VTA port as well. So it is really all dependent on how much boost you are making when you release that determines or whether not the BOV VTAs.
In my experience, the APS is loud. Not louder than a true VTA, but for a hybrid BOV is it loud. I have a Greddy TypeS, which I had tuned for super awesome driveability - I wanted to try out the APS BOV but in my opinion the piston is a bit too stiff. On partial throttle (part boost) lift off the car will stutter a bit, and will not give a clean blow off (no matter how I adjust the screw). Compared to stock the APS IS awesome, but compared to my Greddy... it's no contest.
That's why I'm selling my 2 day old APS BOV. It's up for sale in the for sale section.
