Maps don't match?

Well I finally got around to getting a USB to serial cable and connected to the Xede. The first thing I tried to do was download the existing (SMART) maps from Shiv's tuning in September so I could make a backup. Seems simple enough, I select "Download from Xede" and watch the progress bar fill up. Then, after the maps are loaded I get an error message saying that the current maps and the ones on the Xede don't match. Er, didn't I just download them? Anyway, I tried a few more times always with the same result.

Oh, if it helps, I'm using the Xmap software from vishnu's site which I believe is dated Aug 2005, while the Xede says its firmware is dated July 2005. What do I need to do now? I just want to make a good backup copy of the maps before I go and mess with them.

Hmm. That's odd. When you do the 'download maps from Xede'. The resulting match should exactly match the one currently loaded. Maybe you should call shiv and see if he has a backup of that map. If he does, I bet it will match the one you just downloaded.

Oh. I have an idea. New thread time.

Mine does the same thing, must be that when you download map it defaults the file name to DEFAULT.XM3 and xede thinks files are different, I just hit ignore.

Well that's certainly what I expected. I'm used to dealing with computers, so I wanted to make a clean backup first. Since I don't know how the two maps are compared (by filename as suggested above, some hashing algorithm or bit-by-bit) I have to stop before making any changes. Right now, my guess is that you would be correct that Shiv's map would match. The map I download looks fine, but why then does the Xmap program complain that they don't match?

Perfectly normal. Known bug :)

Ah, okay that's good to know, if a bit disconcerting for the first-time user (me).
