little help from the vegas crowd?

hey guys, sorry this isnt an evo question....

so i go to school for hotel management in philly, and i am seriously thinking of moving out to vegas for a few years when i am done with school in august, and working in one of the hotels. the only problem is, i know nothing at all about real estate ect in that area. i was looking around online and came up with tons of shady real estate websites and generally no answers. i was wondering if you guys could fill me in on the scene out there, as in where i should look into buying a place (got to have a garage for my baby) and price ranges.. nothing specific, just trying what the market is like and what i would be getting myself into. thanks in advance guys i apreciate the insight

I don't live in Vegas, but I love it

An amazing site for prices and info that I recently found is www.zillow.com . I know it won't give you first hand info, but it's freaking cool!

you can also see exactly what a neighborhood looks like, as well as what surrounds it and how close.

I'm also subscribing to this thread, because my wife and I are on and off contemplating moving, and Vegas is one place I'd really consider. Anyway, I'll sit back now......

I can't specifically help you but I know the price of Vegas housing has skyrocketed. Good luck in your search.
Edit: judging by the above post I am wrong. It was a couple years ago that I was in Vegas and I had not realized it changed so dramatically.

yah what ryan is talking about is that the market peaked about 2 maybe 3 years ago ( depends who you talk to). so right now there are alot of peeps selling their houses while the price is still high. my thoughts on the price inflation was from a lot of cali buyers who already had a ton of equity built into their homes got second homes here in vegas...also alot of peeps from cali moved here also..so dont rule that out. In fact when i got the house im in now...there was more cali buyers then local buyers, i guess they got them to rent out.

So anyways its still kinda scary to buy at this time IMO, but i have talked to a few peeps who said they got some good deals....

as for the best area to buy in..i would say the north end near Aliante..its still growing. Summerlin is not bad also..thats on the far west end of vegas. in fact your best bet is get as far from the strip as you can...and with a good route to work....traffic bad in vegas..alot of crazy drivers (24 hour drinking, alot of undocumented workers, and old folks..great combo)
