Nimpoc, I doulbe that interest. Do you know what patches you are running, or what your readiness stuff is all set to? Are you using ECUFLash for the tuning, or do you have Vishnu's ecu setup from back in the day?

Its good to hear someone passed with the new STAR laptop stuff. Did they physically connect a laptop with the cable as we have been told from the law?

For sure I wouldn't think anyone would pass with a HFC in CA. I always bolt mine in, but I leave the rest of the 3 inch exhaust. I don't think anyone in MA has been as lucky or I am behind on their smog thread, so its interesting feedback. Which station was it exactly?

I'm running 94170715. Jay [Boosted Tuning] has done most of the work with me just fiddling around in my rare spare time. Patches are all set to stock. What specifically are y'all looking for? Gotta remember that I'm on an 8 ECU and the two of you are on 9's.

Yes the first shop plugged into the OBD port and did a visual which I failed. He said the ECU stuff was fine.
The second shop did a visual and sniffer which is how I got the actual emission numbers.

just seeing what passed. i may be deleting my EGR by welding it at the block.. but waiting to see what effect that has as well.

i just want to be able to bolt on my cat and pass without having to put in my stock tune.. which means swapping injectors too.

YUP that was what I wanted to see. Just wondering if the software actually ran checks or just reads those values, or what.

I haven't heard of anyone actually getting the new process or check. I guess when you failed you were forced to go to a place with a sniffer then?

my smog experience

For me the visual was the killer.
With a stock cat and e85 I was told you can pass.
but the visual is where you hit problems.
the smog station I went too within 1 min had problems
just taking the car raised eyebrows as I pulled in.
jm2c
All worked out at the end of it all.
at least for 2 more years.

Will I pass smog? (CA)

Just wanted to ask if anyone will know if I will pass smog or not in California. I have a evo 9. My power mods are greddy ti-c cat back, rre rally cat, Perrin down pipe, and it's dyno tuned. Will these mods make my car fail smog? Thanks in advance for any help.

The only problem that I can think of is your cat. Here in CA they are pretty harsh on modification. You will pass smog with your tune but you'll probably fell the inspection part. Unless the person who's smogging your car does not really care lol. I passed smog with flying colors on E85 tune, injectors, inter cooler piping, aem intake, greddy cat back, Megan down pipe. hope this will help you out. Good luck

Hmm, so you think if i just re-install my stock cat I'll pass? It seems like you got a lot more going as far as power mods and you were still able to pass.

When you say fail the inspection part, do you mean a visual inspection?

you might fail the visual, you can pass the sniffer thing with the RRE cat, many have done it before.

Ya the visual sorry. To be sure just bolt the stock cat on like Bhsj13 said so you know for sure you won't have a problem. Good luck to you
