Maybe going turbo?

Hey guys I've been away from the forums for a while. So I would really like to start my turbo build this winter so she could be ready for next year. Still debating if its worth it as my car has 180,000km. I know others have done it before around that much KM. I'm kinda scared to blow something I have been beating on the car for a long time. So I'm thinking I would maybe rebuild the head but I'm not sure yet. The car does burn a little oil probably threw the valves. Is it worth it to rebuild the head and not touch the block? Im really undecisive one day I want to sell the car the next I want to fully build it. I've put quite a bit of money in the direction and suspension it would be a shame to get rid of it now. So let me know what you guys think.

Obviously you guys would say that, but what about the engine? Would it be worth it to rebuild the head without the block? All I'm worried about is the engine. Seems to make a lot of clicking sounds but then again these engines are pretty noisy.

when did you last adjust the valve lash? could also be the injectors.

if you've been changing your oil on time, it should be fine...i've been turbocharged and racing for the last 50,000km (i'm at 240,000km)...i did have my head rebuilt, and a new head gasket isn't a terrible idea...i'll tell you, i was honestly expecting the motor to blow at some point, but so far it's been the drivetrain taking a beating...engine runs fine (knock on wood)...

Crans and I both ran for years with stock head and internals. There was on car that came up from NY to get tuned he had a fully built Block stock head pushing 16psi I think? At 16psi he needed a new head gasket and arp head stud. The issue was drive ability there was too much power, the car needed an LSD and better tires then maybe it would stuck a bit better. Loosing traction in 4th gear although is sounds fun it can get annoying.

Do it!

My build has had to take the back burner for a while. But Im still planning to go thru with it.

Like crans said replacing the head gasket would be a good idea. He told me about a thicker head gasket once that would help to lower compression a bit. So thats what I plan to do when I get to that point of my build.

And freshening up the head will be worth it. I wouldnt waste my time on the bottom end unless you plan on going over 14psi.

I'd say rebuild the head and new gasket/seals. My opinion would be though since you're already having stuff off would be to just get new bearings/piston rings just so you have peace of mind and not have to worry about something going

I wonder how much it would set me back to rebuild the head and then how much longer is it to change the piston rings and the main bearings?

I know a guy that works at National Cylinder Head they charged me $300 or $350 cant remember exactly. But they rebuild a 4g64 cylinder head for me and ported and polished it to match the gaskets. Really great guys to work with. IDK if something is more local to you. But these guys did a great job for me. I'll be contacting them again when Im ready to have my 4g69 head done.

i paid about $280 to have my head done. and that's just cleaning, decking, and a valve job...that doesn't include any seals.

Do you think its worth it to go and change the rings and bearings in the block? It seems pretty pricey when you go and start playing in the block. I will be on a tight budget but I dont want to do it half fast either.

Depending on the amount of miles on the car I would say its recommended just cause sooner or later it would need to be replaced especially if you're going to be going higher compression.

it would probably be cheaper to buy a spare engine block from the junk yard

I'm only recommending these just because you said you were burning oil. It could be just the valves but just to be sure for future reference to do the piston rings/check the condition of your pistons.
