Lug nut key

I need to rotate the tires on my 04 RA, but the lug nut key for the icw racing rims that came with it is all stripped out.

I've contacted ICW via e-mail but haven't received a response and I called some tire shops listed on the ICW website but non of them can get me the replacement key.

Any ideas on how I can get a replacement key or something that could work in the event I have to change a tire in an emergency?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Dont know what tool would do it, but I'd say take it off by force.

Grip it from the outside and have it come off and replace it with a regular lug nut... =\ unless your willing to buy a new set....

In a pinch, you can get a socket that just barely *doesn't* fit over the locking lug, and hammer it on. Then use a breaker bar to turn the socket. If you have a hydraulic press, press the nut out of the socket and go on to the next. If not, get four sockets. Either way, get four new lug nuts, either a new set of locks or regular ones.

Thanks for the quick responses guys!

However, the rims don't really have enough room for standard lug nuts, I guess I'm just SOL unless I can find the proper key, or buy new rims and tires.

Thank the FSM for tax returns!

yeah, unless icw can send you a replacement key asap, and you're that worried about needing to change your tires, you may just need to get it replaced,

also have a spare lug key at your house, in case you lose one, its gets stripped etc...
saves you the difficulty of having to deal with this, I had to do the same thing =/

LOL
I have that, and use it alot! its nice to use and not have to switch sizes in the middle of working. Works great as long as you dont need to put alot of pressure on it. (dash pieces/crap around the house/my lawnmower, works for those things).

(/if I didnt buy one years ago, I would be lol'ing at that crappy product)

You could also go to sears, or your local tool store, and pick up a damaged bolt removal set. It's basically sockets with teeth. You hammer them on to a damaged/rounded bolt and it'll get it out.

Thanks again for all the help guys! I'm gonna give ICW a day or so to respond to my e-mail then look at replacing my rims and whatnot. What a PITA?!?!

Hopefully ICW will be able to send me a replacement key and if so, I'll definitely order 2 or 3 just to be on the safe side.

Thanks again! I'll let everyone know how it goes.

tire places should be able to remove keyless nuts shouldn't they?

also, lugnuts come in quite a few sizes. maybe autozone has some that will fit your rims. I had to look around a bit too.

I was thinking more like they had tools that would tear them off, similar to what was mentioned above but designed specifically to remove locking lug nuts

with my friend civic we chissled a flat spot on it and used a vice grip. Or at some shops you buy a kit with a socket with reversed threads that thread on the lock counter clockwise so as the socket tightens on the lock and loosens the lug nut on the stud.
