Clutch Preload 101 how-to
Figured I would make a quick video on how to preload your clutch using the e-brake or a hydro handbrake.
Bare with me in the video, it's kinda weird sitting in the garage in the car by myself recording myself, so my voice is a bit jittery haha!
I have been pre-loading for years now. Used to do it in my mid 8 second eagle talon, the talon had a CNC hand brake so it was alot easier to pre-load using that. E-brake works as well, but you are at the mercy of e-brake cables vs a CNC hand brake that uses hydraulics.
Anyway, enjoy the video! Hope this helps some Maybe I will get a incar video when I am at the track this weekend to show how it works in real time.
READ BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS!
step one: pull up ebrake holding the button in so the ebrake does not lock on you.. Pull the ebrake up as far as you can..
step two: bring the clutch out till it BARELY starts to grab, too much and you will burn you clutch up.
step three: hit the 2step by going full throttle ***NOTE: stock ecu cars this will only work on 03-04 evo's since the 2step feature is activated via vehicle speed, 05-06 evos with stock ecu's won't work as the 2step switch is only with the clutch fully to the floor.. Unless it can be adjusted via vehicle speed through ecuflash for 05+ evo's
step four: release the ebrake
step five: release the clutch out completely the second you feel your car move.
Now, if you trying to do this on a single disc clutch, it won't work as well. You will burn the clutch up quicker. This pre-load method is more towards cars with twin or triple plate clutches as I have stated in the video..

No problem guys. If I goto the track this weekend I may get some incar footage to show how it's done in real time. That is if our stupid weather holds over here. Seems as it only rains on the weekends here lol.

Uhh, your not side stepping it since the clutch is already 30% released when pre-loading. So when you feel the car move after letting the e-brake down, just let the clutch loose. Don't need to "side step it" per say.
