Has anyone done a 1st to 3rd shift..?

i was messing around today and questioned how a 1st directly to 3rd shift would work at the track..... it puts it right at 3500rpm in 3rd gear if shifting from around 6500rpm out of 1st....... wouldnt mind seeing how large of a difference in times it makes....Perhaps a stupid thought but 1st and 2nd in these cars seem geared so low.......

Dont know how well that would work very well at the track from my experience. But I do this in every day driving to save on gas.

Yep I do the same thing on daily driving, helps save on gas, when you get good at it it helps wear and tear on the clutch and helps you stay off boost. Go from 1st to 3rd then 5th, or 2nd to 4th depending on conditions. Take your time, figure out where the transmission likes to be shifted to the next gear and ease into things without bogging. It's nice on the engine as well while you're waiting for your oil to warm up. The tranny doesnt shift as smooth at lower rpms as higher (that whole racing thing... - take your time and don't rush the syncros at lower RPMs. (21K+ miles, stock clutch, no problems!, driven and beaten daily

Believe me you'll go slower going 1st to 3rd than you would 1st to 2nd then 3rd.

1-2-4 all the time. 1-3 however... *thinking* can't say i remember doing that. even done a 1-2-5, but just imagining a 1-3 feels awkward.

I've been exposed to manual shifting for only about a year and its really interesting to hear everyone shifting from 1-2-4, 1-2-5, 1-3 and other different combo's. Am I able to shift from 1-2-4 or 1-2-5 or even 1-3-5 at 3k RPM? This is where most of us shift at.

I am a daily driver and I have been taught to just shift normally from 1-2-3-4-5. I do drive fast when needed and/or just want that rush of adrenaline, or pass the honda's.

Which do you recommend me using? I'd like to try 1-2-4 but I'd like to know from experienced drivers and how they shift. Thanks.

From what I read, skipping from 1st to 4th in 6 spd Camaros and Corvettes saves gas. I tried it once and it felt weird, and I imagine shifting 1st to 3rd would be even more so being that they're next to each other, but it probably saves gas. I don't worry anymore because I'm in a 5 spd econobox.

I always go 1st, 3rd, 5th to save gas or 2nd, 4th,5th.

in my old Nissan Sentra, i used to go 1 3 4 5, because 2nd seemed so useless. shifting into it would only drop the revs, like, 1k rpm. nothing at all. so, especially getting onto the freeway, from a standstill, i'd go 1 3 4 5, running it to redline in first, then shifting

I like trying to not stop and just slowly rolling toward a red light as I wait for it to change. Then I dont have to use first at all and can just go 2nd-4th-5th. Very smooth
