10.5mm Turbine Housing for 04 Evo VIII

Is it worth changing the 9.8mm Turbine Housing to a 10.5mm Turbine Housing (same as the 05)? Right now I have Works TBE, Works Drop In, Walbro and EVO IX DV. Will it make a big difference?

I am thinking about getting some Cams or the 10.5 housing. Which will get better gains? What about an Evo IX Turbo. Is the IX turbo the same as the 05 or is it a little bigger? Is there a big difference in power between the 05 and the 06 turbo when installed in an 04 Evo?

Cams will get you a bigger gain but there is a big difference in prize espicially if you cannot install the cams yourself. The 9 turbo is a bit bigger then the 05 but has the same turbines, i believe.
The 10.5 housing will get you a bit more horespower with slightly better top end.

Depends on the tune and what cams you get. If you look around in the f/s thread, you can find 10.5's for extra cheap and used set a cams as well. You could probly pick them both up for the price of one if you get lucky.

Which swap? 10.5 hotside or cams? Do you have an idea of how much power you gain? What other mods on the car. A new hotside is about $300. Used maybe a lot less. Unless I can get a IX turbo for a decent price that might be a good upgrade.

Don't buy a 10.5 new! At 300$ you are only 100-250 short of a 9 turbo that will get much bettr results. I think you're better off with a 9 turbo. But, cams will get you better gains then either. And with a 9 turbo + cams you should be very happy

If it was me, I´d sell off that ´04 16G and buy a used IX turbo. You will probably only have to make up a couple hundred bucks difference.

+1, i swapped to a 9 turbo after cams and you can def notice the top end pull better. You can get a 9 turbo for $450 to $550 depending on how old it is, check the sellers creds though.

Bringing this thread back from the dead, does anyone know if all 05's had the 10.5 housing or just the MR?

I think that the 16G turbos on all 2005 USDM Evos(not just the MR) were configured with the single-flapper, 10.5 cm housing.

I have an 05 rs that i just did GSC S1 cams and 3" TBE and it pulls WAAAYYYY harder. And if you want my 10.5 turbo let me know. I am ordering the red soon, but my turbo is perfect and the car is very quick.

Go with a IX turbo! Bigger hot side and compressor housing meaning more air, which means more power. I love the way my car pulls up top and I'm still BONE STOCK. Just a drop in K&N lol
