Kelford Cams with Mechanical Lifters

We just purchased a set of Kelford Cams for a friend's Evo 8
We got the 8-TX276HL which is the High Lift camshaft
On Kelford Website, it states: Mitsubishi Camshaft: EVO 8 - Hydraulic Kelford Cams range of high quality camshafts for Mitsubishi EVO 8, ground on a masterless Toyoda CNC camshaft grinder
He has Tomei Mechanical Lifter Kit on his car.
Some companies like Tomei make different cams for both Hydraulic and Mechanicals lifters but looks like Kelford only shows this cam for Hydraulic lifters.

What would happen if we use these Hydraulic Lifter cams on a Mechanical Lifter head?

Call Kelford and findout if the cam requires hydraulic lifters. Tomei may also know if the solid lifters will work with other manufacturer or stock cams.

Usually the ramp rates and low lift duration are considerably different between hydraulic and mechanicals. With a mechanical setup, the ramp rate near the seat is lower and then the midrange and nose are more aggressive. This allows the valve clearance to be taken up slowly to prevent impact loads that would otherwise be absorbed by the hydraulic adjuster on opening and prevents valve bouce at closing. The more aggressive ramp mid-range though would potentially collapse a hydraulic adjuster.

The wrong profile can beat the hell out of the valvetrain.

I would call kelford.
