255/35/18 or 245/40/18

Hey guys,

i'm looking into stepping up my rim size to 18's. i'm interested in the Rota G-force 18x9 in hyperblack. what tire size would be best for that size rim? considering 255/35 or 245/40 yokohama s.drive tires. i have GT-Worx springs on stock struts. i'm not really interested in modifing fenders. hopefully no rubbing will occur.

also anyone running the Rota G-force's in 18x9 let me know what you think about them.

thanks

255/35-18 on Rotas

Yes, the inputs are valid - 255/35-18 is the best... I had the same wheels (Rotas with same wheel width) and lowering springs with these tires and had no issues.. great look and fit. Only issue was curb rashes on the wheels as they don't span to the edge. I've since replaced with 265/35-18 Michellin PS2s but instantly ran into rear fender rubbing on turns and bumps.. had to get the fenders rolled, but the grip with this setup is amazing.... even at the track (almost like running R compounds).

But play it safe and go for the 255/35-18.

def 255/35. i use to run 255/35 w 18x9 rotas svn. they fit w no rubbing issues. then i had to buy new tires and so i have 245/40 cuz they were cheaper. but whenever i turn the steering wheel all the way in either direction, i get a slight rub on the inner part of the plastic wheel well cover (whatever u call it thingy)

so the 245/40's rubs? i'm definitely going with the 255/35 it should be a slightly shorter tire (height wise) compared to the 245/40 correct?

255/40 is perfect.
No need to go any wider if you're not tracking and even if you went wider, you'll need some fender rolling or you can ride high and look like a 4x4, haha.
Go wider is always good, but you'll need extra money to make it happen "correctly."

yeah the car doesnt get track since all i have that is close by is a drag strip. it will see the drag every once and a while but i'm bored with that too lol.

i just want it to look really aggressive to suit the power that it will hopefully have come november.

With 9" wide rims, that's also what I have, I run the 245/40-18's and will be upgrading to 265/35-18's. I had one set of 255/35-18's and the ride quality felt like ****! Not enough side wall. The stock tire size is 25.3" The 245/40-18 is 25.6, the 255/35-18 is 25.0 (smaller then stock) and the 265/35-18 is the same 25.3" as the stock 235/45-17 tire that come on the car.

So if you have coilovers, run the 265/35-18 and if you don't, run the 245/40-18! Click link below to see what happens when you run a tire with no side wall:
