Who is your RI? How are you getting it out of customs?
Japan partner is just a exporter. They put the car on the ship and wash their hands of it. They do not handle US customs brokerage, or a million other things that need to be done to bring a car into the US.
Here's a quote from their website:
"We sell our cars only to those customers from USA that already had previous experience of importing japanese vehicles to USA and are aware of the whole procedure of its importing."
In other words... "You're on your own once we get our money and have proof the car is on the ship"

Also, you have to love the Photoshop hack job putting their name on a freighter and an airbus A300-600st (only 5 in assistance, all owned by airbus transportation, painted in airbus colors)

They offer auction service and are pretty good.
Japan Partner has crazy mark ups like 4-5k on Evo 6 alone...on a GTR I am sure they are making a 10k-15k profit per car.
Just get into an auction see the cars grade.
They are very detailed and you can see the minimal scratch on the grade sheet.

I imported an r32, myself, and it was a NIGHTMARE.
I got burned by Motorex/Graecar forabout 15,000usd, but I did eventually get my car.
After the feds impounded it for 4 years.
It was a fully legal r32 but you must understand it was a special exemption because of the Motorex meltdown, and when the DOJ took it, they gave us (me and 33 other poor fools) NHTSB waivers in exchange for using our cars as evidence.
I can categorically tell you, with 100% certainty, due to my own experience, 15k in legal fees, and a mountain of paperwork, the following:
All R32's are illegal. Period, end of story.
Most R33's are illegal. Some are legal.
All R34's are illegal. Period, end of story.
Now, the ONLY exception to that, is if the car was one of the 33 Skylines seized from Motorex/Graecar's warehouse in Oxnard, California, in 2002. If it is one of those, it will come with a hand-signed, dated, certificate from the direct of the NHTSB, with a JDM VIN, and a reference to the trial including docket numbers. It will also have a 50 State title, and, the State DOT will also have the registration papers, the letter from the NHTSB, and photos of all the VIN plates and the motor. Each was issued a 50 State title with (usually) a conditional, 4 year brand that allowed the individual State to rescind the title if the Motorex case was successfully appealed. It was not, and they should all have the brand removed by now.

I was trying to find this out to. My understanding is as long as the car is historic its legal. So a lot of the early 90's cars are just becoming legal. I have no idea how the customs thing will work though. I was planning on going to japan next summer and trying to bring a car back with me.
