ok to drive with bad transfer case?

i just got back from a local auto shop to check wierd noises from the front, and he said i have a blown or bad transfer case. i'm leaving to northern california on thursday and dont have time for the dealer to replace it. just wanted to know if its ok to drive there and back. any thought is great. oh i also saw the mechanic put some other fluid in when he looked at it, i no its not diaqueen or anything like that is it ok also.

NO don't do it.. I had problems with the transfer case in the past, it will eventually lock up your car, mine did that to me on the freeway in Kentucky..
if you ignore it you risk having to replace the driveshaft as well..

And he didnt put the right fluid in it?

Flat-bed home. Change the fluid back to OEM. Have it checked by a mech. that knows Evo TCs.

I would just take it to the dealer to check it out if you're not sure.

Yeah if you can't get warranty coverage I would get it fixed before it amounts to being to much money.

Rent a car to drive to Nor Cal. Leave your Evo to get fixed.

the mechanic also put some exxon fluid into the differential and transfer case. as long as the classification grade is the same as oem, it should be fine?

Fluids have to be what Mitsubishi recommends to avoid warrantee problems. I don't know about gearboxes, but it specifically says in the owner's manual that you must use Mobil 1 full synthetic for the engine, I'd imagine they're strict on the drivetrain too.

I wouldnt drive it, high speed (80ish) and mountain passes will put a strain on it. If you do drive it get a AAA membership (RV+) that way they'll tow you 250 miles for free.
