2011 M/Y Recall - Accessory Drive Belt

Received a letter in the mail from over the weekend (which I unfortunately then left at my parents house) regarding a recall for several 2011 models. Off the top of my head I remember the O/S, Lancer, and Lancer Sportback, but I could be mistaken.

Apparently has established that the material used to make the belt is not holding up, and to summarize "runs the risk of breaking, causing an abrupt loss of power steering and brakes which could cause an unsafe situation" or something along those lines.

Letter is not needed to qualify for repairs, so talk to your dealers ASAP before e'rry body gets their letter and flocks in for service.

I'll post a scan of the letter as soon as I can, but it'll probably be a few days.

EDIT:

Found this:

2014-09-12 (Published by NHTSA on 2014-10-10)
Recall Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Lancer, Lancer Evolution, and Outlander; 2009-2011 Lancer Sportback and 2011 Outlander Sport vehicles. The affected vehicles, manufactured with 4B1 engines, have an engine pulley and belt arrangement for turning the alternator, the cooling fan and the power steering pump (if equipped). These pulleys may experience unusual wear and allow for belt detachment.
Hazard: If the drive belt detaches, the battery may discharge, resulting in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the drive belt with a rubber belt. Drive pulleys that are excessively worn will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-14-009.
Additional Info: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

2014-09-12 (Published by NHTSA on 2014-10-16)
Recall Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2011 Outlander Sport vehicles manufactured on September 3, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the switch sleeve in the brake booster may crack and prevent the brake pedal from returning properly.
Hazard: If the pedal is unable to move back to the proper position, the vehicle may not move as expected, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake booster, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in October 2014. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-14-008.
Additional Info: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Actually the belt is made of a material similar to Adamantium and is wearing through the pulleys. That's why they are replacing them with rubber ones.

Great.
Keep us in the loop.

PS: See if you can keep the old belt, as reference.
I want to see if there's any excessive wear. (as a visual reference for ours 2013's or newer.)

I did not notice any wear on my stock pulley that I took off, like the recall said. I think they are just going to replace the belt, and hopefully clear my air bag service light too

they called and rescheduled me till 11/12/14 @ 8am because of the wait and ordering all they parts, is the tensioner assembly, pulleys and belt in case they have to swap more than just the belt. Guess I is better and into the new year, but want to get it done prior to me starting all the EVOX upgrades so they don't say anything about that.

Just got mine done yesterday. Had to wait for parts to come in. They replaced all 3 parts.....belt, pulley and tensioner. I probably won't notice any difference except I'll need to keep an eye on (or nose really) things. I had a hint of burning rubber smell from time to time lately. Wondering if that was the belt wearing out.

Hmm me too come to think of it, sometimes I'll notice a burning rubber smell getting out of the car after a drive. I have a 2013, drive it very carefully (I don't think I ever get over 3500rpm) and only have about 5500 miles on the clock.

I got the letter for my 08 Lancer a while back. I called the other day to schedule an appointment and he said they're back up about 3-4 weeks waiting on parts. I still need to schedule a time. Car has 118K miles and is still ok.
