EVO GB EVOLUTION GTI’R DRAG CAR BUILD THREAD

EVO GB ONE OFF DRAG RACE EVO/PULSAR HYBRID BUILD

RUNNING A BUSINESS FOR MANY YEARS BUYING AND SELLING NISSAN PULSAR GTIR CARS AND PARTS WE BUILT A GTIR RACE CAR AND MANAGED TO STRANGLE 618 BHP BUT KEPT BLOWING UP GEARBOXES AND TO BE HONEST WE WANTED ANOTHER CHALLENGE .
SO WE SPENT 2 YEARS BUILDING A ONE OFF FERRARI 355 MID ENGINED PULSAR GTIR
IT PROVED SO EXPENSIVE TO FINISH BECAUSE WE HAD TO BUY 2 OF EVERYTHING IT RAN AN AWESOME 400BHP AS A STANDARD ENGINE BUT THE 355 BERLINETTA RAN A 48 VALVE FUEL INJECTED V8 WITH 2 ECU’S ETC AND TO UPRATE THE ECU’S TO MOTEC & THE CLUTCH AND GEARBOX TO COPE WITH THE PLANNED TWIN TURBO’S WOULD HAVE COST A FORTUNE SO AFTER ALL THE HARD WORK WE DECIDED ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH AND STRIPPED THE CAR. SELLING ALL THE FERRARI RUNNING GEAR TO HELP FINANCE OUR NEW PROJECT . WE DECIDED TO BUILD AN
”EVO GTIR”.
WE AQUIRED A LATE MODEL EVO AND A MINT PULSAR GTIR AND SET ABOUT BUILDING 2 CARS INTO ONE . WITH VIEW TO BUILDING A NISSAN PULSAR GTIR /EVO HYBRID WITH A COMPLETE FLOOR /BULKHEAD SECTION AND THE COMPLETE RUNNING GEAR FROM AN EVOLUTION THIS IS THE STORY IN PICTURES OF OUR 4 YEAR PROJECT.

We consulted our engineer who immediatly started pulling his hair out at the thought of the enormity of the project, we pulled his arm up behind his back promised him many bags of gold coinage and he was beaten the project was go! after taking what seemed a million measurements we set about taking both cars apart and stripped them down to the bone let the work begin.

take one mint nissan pulsar gti'r and one late model evo and mix well
what do you get ? please read on to find out.

evo floor section removed complete with bulkhead .
The other half of the evo floorpan and rear seat/boot floor was also removed as a seperate section. A few precise measurements followed before removing a sizeable chunk of the rear floor because the gti'r has 2 doors and the evo obviously has 4 and has a longer floor section.

gti'r with floor, boot floor and rear inner arches removed.
interior panels removed right back to the rear wings
add front and rear section of evo floorpan to bottom of gti'r body shell and we are ready for some serious welding !

evo rear inner arch sections mated up to gtir rear wings

lots of metal fill in work needed here then!

when two become one

front and rear struts were braced to stop movement and then after many tape measure and spirit level actions front strut/inner wings were stitched into place

evo rear seat base section / boot floor stitched in to the gti'r shell

front of floor pan and bulkhead stitched in

now thats looking better.

all lined up and away we go with the welder!!

rear strut ,floor and bulkhead steel panel stitch welding for stregnth

this photo shows the extensive modifications carried out to the rear section of the evo floorpan

evo rear seat section and boot floor showing wheel well in situ

almost looks like a car again

rear of car floor coming together and showing flat boot floor conversion getting rid of unwanted wheel well

stitching panels showing evo chassis to gtir wings

filler neck delete

seam weld the whole car and there we have one evo floor pan in a gtir
now for the roll cage!

onto suspension and wheels and at last trial fit for the engine

a quick blow over the cage with primer and hey presto

swap wings to origional wings from my old race car because we were trying to get more clearance on the wheels which were catching on the arches my race wings had no nuts and bolts holding arch trims on. still a problem so 3 sets of wheels later (what a pain) we need to make a decision. in the first place we wanted a gtir with evo power but to still have the same outer look as a gtir but now did we really care no we didn't so on we go!

the car with trimless wings and a carbon bonnet imported from canadaa set of evo 6 alloys but still too wide!
and the answer is cut the crap out of the wings and go all steel wide wings yeahh !!

split and sectioned rear wings

split ,spaced and sectioned front wings

there we go wide arches and another set of alloys yes please much better.
oh forgot to say there is also a 2.3 motor and and brand new samsonas dog box just for starters.

another view of the arch work plus the addition of an evo 9 rs diff set up and a momentum tubular rear subframe
and gab race struts all round

momentum frame

samsonas dog box built in lithuania with drag spec ratio's
engine and box now fitted with ams mountings
a small addition of a rather special norris designs gt42 turbo and twin gates/shearer manifold

ams inlet manifold with 8 injector conversion and massive throttle body conversion

before and after !!

finally my favourite photo of the beast I reckon its waiting very patiently for the next instalment!

thats pretty much it up to now . the car has been completely stripped back down to shell doors boot and bonnet and is waiting for a wrap or spray job there have been many more purchases for the car and we seem to be keeping ams in sales. we are deliberating on what capacity engine to run 2.3 or 2.4 ? we are now producing our own full race cylinder head as well as fast road versions and we will be fitting what ever engine we settle on with one of our own race large valve polished and tunnel ported cylinder heads. we are hoping for big power and hopefully an extremely quick car watch this space for the next pictures , maybe this will spur us on to finish the car . it is just so difficult to get time to work on the car when we are buying and selling all you guys the best of evo parts and leaving ourselves little or no time for the build. thanks for looking at the thread and we hope you enjoy seeing what we are capable of . please do not hesitate if you would like something similar just give us a call we are here to help.
cheers julian and brett evo gb

we would like to thank simon norris for his help, advice and superior knowledge and for the superb norris designs dry sump system we purchased from him it really is second to none.thanks go to dave rowe for supplying motec system and knowledgable advice, and thanks to gazz at cpp for the ear bashing we have given him when asking his opinion over te last few years and lastly but certainly not least thanks to our brilliant engineer "adam" you know who you are !! who has pulled out all the stops on the car.

just received another new downpipe and 2 miltec hand made exhausts side exit and rear exit 3.5" systems track legal and drag spec. the origional we built is a 4" system which travels through the inside of the car.
we now have 3 full exhaust systems to choose from.
one exits rear ,one side in front of rear wheel and one through rear wing so hopefully where ever we race we should be able to choose an appropriate system for the regulations of the event.
