F/S: (CO) 2006 GG Evo 9 SE 2.3L stroker (ex-Time Trials and Autocross car)

*** SOLD ***

After six years of ownership and development, I've retired my '06 Evo 9 (known to some as "the Evo of Doom") from its racing pursuits, reinstalled some of the original parts, and it is now for sale. It is located in the Denver metro area of Colorado.

It has been de-built to a street car with a full OEM SE package interior, and the roll bar, rear aero, and vinyl logos and numbers have been removed, but it still retains almost all of its racing drivetrain: the 2.3L fully built stroker motor with billet crank, forged pistons, etc., the ported ball bearing CBRD BBK-B turbocharger with 3.5" antisurge cover, the OS Giken push-conversion twin-disc clutch/flywheel, the TRE Max-Lock 12-plate built rear diff w HD side cover, the Wavetrac front LSD, 4.11 Kansai Service / HKS final drive, etc.

The mileage on this 2006 graphite gray Mitsubishi Evolution IX SE is approximately 43,000 (currently 43,060). I've owned this car since February 2008; it had 7,300 miles on it when I bought it. The 2.3L fully built stroker engine has between 3,500 and 5,000 miles on it; the rear diff, a little less. The built transfer case was rebuilt in summer 2012 and has less than 2,000 miles on it. The SE model comes with an aluminum roof, a special black-with-red-stitching interior, and a 5-speed transmission (handles more abuse than the six-speed transmission that came in the MR models).

The current state of tune, low boost (28 psi max), and with the stock exhaust, the car "only" makes about 450 whp. However, you can easily gain another 70–80 whp with more boost and a tune that's optimized for power rather than surviving track racing, when the car is running full blast in 100-degree temps—for 15 to 20 minutes at a time. Install some bigger cams + 33 psi + retune = over 550 whp easy.

The cost of the engine build, drivetrain upgrades, and various other aftermarket parts currently on the car—but not including the Stance double-adjustable coilovers—is over $21,000. $21,150 actually, to be exact.

Nope, I'm not exaggerating; and yes, I actually looked up what every part of value & importance currently costs online and added it all up (I can email you the spreadsheet if you like). Also, aside from the engine build, there is NO LABOR in that cost assessment. No costs of tuning or alignments. There is also no shipping costs included, which when you're talking about shipping a rear diff or transfer case to TRE in Michigan for upgrades with full insurance value for the parts, is about $120 both ways.

So, I'm basically selling a fully developed parts package that's capable of being a 550 whp setup, either as a street car or a track car... it just happens to include a 2006 Mitsubishi Evo 9 along with it.

With the OEM exhaust installed, the rear seats reinstalled, the car is amazingly quiet (to me, anyway) and civilized. And with the 4.11 final drive (OEM is 4.56) the car turns a lot lower RPM both around town and on the highway, which also makes it quieter but also significantly improves fuel economy.

The car is currently set up to run on E85. You'd need to retune the car to run 91 pump gas again.

This car is not perfect. It has a rebuilt title (theft recovery)—that's how I bought the car. Before coming to me in Colorado, the car was in Nevada (Las Vegas area). So no rust—I've always garaged it. This car is not a show car—the body has some minor scratches and defects in it. Cars that are driven (and used as race cars) don't get the SEMA show car treatment.

But as you can see from the pics (taken recently—April 10 2014), overall the car still looks amazing. The OEM rear wing, OEM trunklid, and SE package seats are in particularly good condition, as that stuff has been stored in my basement for the last 3 to 4 years.

What does the car need? Nothing; it's ready to go as-is. The car will have a fresh Royal Purple full synthetic oil change done for the new owner. The fluids in the tranny, T-case, and rear diff have been recently changed (summer 2013; the car hasn't really been driven since then). I can supply the OEM catalytic convertor for you to use for getting the car emissioned (it has a test pipe on it currently), which it will pass.

The windshield (the original, OEM Mitsubishi glass), while not cracked, is pretty peppered with rock chips from being blasted with stuff @ 100+ mph at the track. And if you're planning on taking it out to the track for some open lapping yourself, eventually you'll need to replace the front brake rotors and the front pads. That's it.

I do not have the original OEM front bumper cover, nor do I have the graphite gray OEM hood that came with this car... what's on the car is an OEM aluminum hood that has been gutted underneath to save weight and painted satin black, with a C-West style fiberglass bumper cover (saves weights over the OEM urethane bumper cover). I also do have the OEM rear wiper assembly, the A/C condensor, compressor, and lines (removed for weight savings), the OEM front strut tower brace, the windshield sprayers, and the OEM spark plug cover for the valve cover--that all will go with the car.

PRICING:

As seen in the pictures, with 17" Rota Torque wheels with 255/40-17 tires and Stance double-adjustable coilovers: $21,800.

With the OEM suspension/Hotchkis lowering springs instead of the coilovers: $19,500.

I also have a set of special edition, gunmetal finish RPF1s in 18" x 10.5"/ 18" x 9.5" that are perfect for SM autocross or track duty that could be sold with the car... the metallic gunmetal is a very nice match to Mitsubishi's Graphite Gray. These are unbelievably light wheels too... the 10.5"s are only 19.2 pounds, the 9.5"s only 17.5 pounds. These are the wheels we used on the car to win SCCA Solo Nationals in 2010.

$1100 + shipping with 285/30-18 Hoosier A6 tires (25% tread left), or $1,000 with purchase of car. *** SOLD ***
