I agree, it's messed up that people at best buy lack the knowledge and the interest in learning how to do it right and they only want that commision, but doing a little homework can save you a lot of headache. You dont even need an adapter if you buy a deck with the right amount of preouts (3 sets). That being said I also think it's great there is an adapter that will allow you to get it set up and there are people nice and knowledgable enough here to help get you set up right for free.

your speakers can handle it. The stock amp supplies much more power(guessing 50 watts) RMS than any aftermarket head unit(which generally supply a measely 20 to 30 watts RMS at 4 ohms). this is why the high end HU's only come with preamp outs and no internal amp. the problem you were having was not enough power. under powering speakers is the easiest way to blow them or have distorted sound. you can over power your speakers by as much as twenty percent and still have them perform every day at normal levels. buying a better set of speakers will always sound better, no matter how much power they are getting, but matching your amp to the speakers RMS rating is the best way to get accurate reproduction of sound.

on another note, buy the higher quality signal cables and speaker cables and discover the difference. This is another misconception. The 10' forty dollar cable gives your amps a much cleaner signal and produces much better sound than the 10' fifteen dollar cable. the same amp will deliver much richer sound to your mids and highs and more accurate boom on your subs with the higher quality cables.

the blue wire is called a remote turn on wire and is a switched twelve volt source that is on when the head unit is on. as stated it is used to turn your amp on and off but can be used for things such as an automatic antenna as well.

first of all i work for bestbuy, and second not 1 person works on commission. sadly yes you are right about some stores not knowing anything......especially when it comes to car audio. luckly at my store, my guys know about various wiring adapters for bose, infinity, HK, JBL, monsoon, MACH, and basic pre-amped systems from the factory that we unfortunatly dont sell. though there is not an adapter for every single application, there is for the EVO. and yes we let the customer know about the wire adapter if they are happy with the factory system. but some of our customers do not like the factory infinity, and thats where the bypass/rewire comes to play. maybe my store is one of the lucky ones.....everysingle install tech drives either a EVO/WRX.

yeah, some stores have smart techs, but most just know the products and the basics of installation. I would never let someone put anything in my car as far as car audio, but I know enough myself. If you want a basic system, go to best buy or circuit city. If you want something special or even custom find a reputable car audio shop and go there.

The easiest way to get screwed is to go in blindfolded with your wallet in your hand. Make sure you know what you want and basically what you need to get there. This means doing some research beforehand.

yea well the guys at best buy totally had no idea what to do, maybe since u work there you can go ahead and call the Kalamazoo, MI Best Buy and let them know about this for future inifinity cars they might get. Now I have to waste my time getting my money back in which they are being very arrogant and ignorant about, absolutley unacceptable....

p.s. that blue cord on the soundgate cord hooks up to the harness but to what wire???

It connects to the "remote turn-on" wire from the radio.

Also lets be clear that we aren't personally attacking any employees anywhere. If you have no idea your upgrade path, or if its possible with your current setup, you are asking/hoping that the salesperson knows much much more than you and is able to do it up right for you with no questions or issues. Most in a store like that don't - they are only trying to do what they think is best for you with the requests youve made. Much like anything else that goes into your car, it helps to do some homework about what youre doing, and who youre doing it through. Otherwise you'll always just end up at someones mercy.

What are you trying to do?

Kenwood head unit to stock amp? Use the Soundgate.com adapter.
Kenwood HU to speakers directly? You're better off running your own wires.
Kenwood HU to aftermarket amp? No brainer. Run your own.

Or is it the battery power, accessory power, and ground in the dash that's confusing you? If that's the case, the diagram HERE might help you.

thank you for clearing that up , thats the point i was tryin to make earlier ,if you use the soundgate adapter your pretty much stuck with your stock amp unless your hu has the three sets of rca's. two sets for the harness to run to your stock amp and a set of rca's to run to your aftermarket amp for extra subs.

or atleast two sets of rca's will work also ,one set for your aftermarket amp and one set t'd off to your stock amp but ,then that messes with you fade&balance on you head unit, so three sets of rca's is the best way to go.

unfortunatly, noone had an adapter at the time i installed my system ,thats why i had to by-pass my stock amp and re-run my whole system.

does that hook up to the blue wire on the harness that connects to the harness in the car or does that hook up to the blue wire on the wires that connect to the aftermarket head unit??
