Lightbulb CAN communication

Does anybody have any tips as to how to talk on the Ralliart's CAN line?
Pinouts?
What kind of stuff I can communicate to the car?

A friend and I are playing with an accelerometer. eventually it will be able to measure hp, 1/4 times, lateral g forces, save lap data for later analysis. I was hoping we could at least get tach info from the can line rather than tapping into the tach sense wire.

sorry this is posted in the wrong spot. Didn't read stuff till it was too late. Don't hurt me.

CAN is just a standard of communication such just like rs232 or USB. The port service techs connect to in order to download error codes when your SES light goes off is in CAN.

I'm stopping by the dealership to order some things tonight. I'll ask them a few questions about it.

I haven't read anything about it in the service manual.

^ Thanks for the ECU diagram. We might use that instead. Don't want to though because it would be a less universal application. Service tech at the dealer took my info down. Said he'd get the pinout to me as soon as he could.

Pin 2 - J1850 Bus+
Pin 4 - Chassis Ground
Pin 5 - Signal Ground
Pin 6 - CAN High (J-2284)
Pin 7 - ISO 9141-2 K Line
Pin 10 - J1850 Bus
Pin 14 - CAN Low (J-2284)
Pin 15 - ISO 9141-2 L Line
Pin 16 - Battery Power

This is a generic one. I don't know if it pertains to the RA. We might look at it this weekend if we get time.

The service guy at the dealership said he'd get back to me, but hasn't contacted me yet.

there is a new type of can bus out that requires diffrent scanners. the new canbus system is going to be the norm. i thought he was refuring to the new can bus system that is on the endevor, and eventually every car. my old shop (price mitsubishi) just refered to them as obd1 obd2 and canbus. the new canbus makes things more complicated if you ask me, but then again that is just my opnion as a retired mitsubishi master tech.

I believe in 2008 CAN will be implimented by law as was OBDII in 1996. Can is more complicated but has more benifits than OBDII. Instead of having wires going all over the vehicle, you wire a sensor for example to the closest module, from there you have the can lines(two wires) that send info along to other modules that require that signal.

yeah the 2004 endevor has a half can system. and it requires a special scanner that is hooked up to a laptop and the internet to diagnose it.

I know cars now are using 2 or 3 different cans and the new 2007 Mercedes-Benz S class has 8 or 9. At work we have a special laptop with a multiplexer to allow us to communicate with the vehicle. The amount of things we can do with the laptop is unbelievable!
