throttle Position Sensor

Okay guys heres the break down. I drove from phoenix, up to flagstaff, went from 84 degrees to freaking snow..So i don't know if altitude or the weather has a factor in this, but yesterday when i started my car up in flagstaff my service engine soon light came on If i tap on the gas, the RPMS would not even move unless i floored it then only will it start to move but wouldn't go past about 3k.
So i turned it off and back on a few times and then everything was back to normal but still had my service light on. So i took it and got the code read, It threw a Throttle Positioning Sensor. the code was P2138. I'm Scared to drive my car back down to Phoenix, in case i mess up something. Let me know your ideas.

thanks Guys

It isn't TPS, it is APP accelerator pedal position.

I have had something like that happen to me on the freeway. I was driving just fine like 10% throttle and all of a sudden it started to slow down on me and my ses light came on. I could only bring up the revs if i floored it and it would only go up like If I started off in 4th or 5th gear! so I moved all the way to an emergency lane and I just restarted the battery. It scared the living crap out of me! I dont know how to completely fix the problem but I just move to a safe location and reset the battery. With my AFC and the throttle sensor i can see its just not reading it correctly. Only happend like 3 times after and has not happend in a long while *knocks on wood* But if you find a solution please tell me and I will do the same.

mitsubishi actually has a new reflash out for that problem. Just take it to a dealer and they should fix it for you. I'm the turbo guy Adamra is talking about, so i gone through a lot with the tps. There are many people having troubles with the tps that is the reason for the new reflash they came out with. good luck

Bumping this, since I've just gotten the code. Thankfully, I was close to home, so I could limp the car back to reset the CEL. Problem hasn't come back, though, and I'm now keeping my OBDII reader in the car in case it comes up again. Anybody have more info on it?

this problem also happened to me, two times. The first time I was driving a bit fast and from all the sudden the rpms dropped on me and quickly had to park the car. I checked everything; MAF sensor, CAI position and when checked the piggy one cable was loose. Reconnected it and everything was fine.

just 2 weeks ago it happened again and this time I rapidly checked the piggy cables. They were tightly connected and everything was in order. I let it rest like 10 minutes and restarted the car. Everything was fine...

wtf?

Yeah, it was random for me, too. Was cruising at 45-50 and I just lost power, had to putter home at 30mph. I don't even have the piggyback. I did reset my ECU earlier today, but I don't see how that'd have anything to do with it.
