Question diy chopped airbox intake HELP!!

hey everyone.
so i have an 06, and i chopped my air box and added a cone filter.
it works awesomely and sounds great.

but.

i think sometimes its too lean. it causes the CEL to go on.
now i use 91 octane, and i dont have that problem. and its even more powerful, but my problem is. when i reach 105mph, it stops there. no more acceleration. even if im goin downhill. my top speed was topping off at 130.

i guess my mas doesnt like the intake. help???

if i were to get something to change the mixture, would that fix it?

but other than that, is there a way to fix this intake problem?
i have no money for a piggy back or something like that.

i cant find the stupid thing on the napa website.

but its an orange filter made by some off brand.

its the same size as the air box diameter that mounts to the 90 degree arm.

i cant find a picture, but i can tell you that it fits directly on the MAS tube without any couplers or anything.

Other than buying a piggyback the only way to make your ECU to compensate for changes is to do a reset.... Have you done a reset to the ECU?

I'm having the same problem. I've done 3 resets with no luck. I put the stock airbox back on, but haven't drivin it enough to see if it comes back on. I didnt think about using higher octane. I'm still in awe that an airfilter can do this!

what is the code? This should not cause a lean condition with no tuning. no exhaust mods, no other intake mods, just a filter. no way it's lean, sorry to disagree.

what do you mean it doesn't go any faster? fuel cut or what? do you have a problem redlining the car in any gear? do you have enough oil in the car?

resetting the ECU won't make it learn faster, it resets it. it will still take the ECU a MINIMUM of 50 miles to learn any condition, so keep driving

If you need further explanation I will be happy to provide the reasoning behind my questions/statements

hmm. i know ive reset it once before. but i just realized. i had a different filter before. and i cant recall resetting it with this new filter.

ill reset it sometime and see if that works. and about the 50 mile thing. i reach that more than twice a day. no problem. :]

is there any other reason my car could be stopping at 105? in other words, when i get into my 4th speed, it stays at 4500 rpms and wont even inch above 105.

and sometimes flooring it in 2nd or 3rd, it only pulls at about 4500 and slowly creeps towards redline.

but other times, my car pulls like a champ.

i cant figure it out.

id agree that an intake mod won't probably make the car lean out without a tune unless you hit the maf sensor or dropped it or something and maybe broke it...they are really fragile and sensative!

And maybe the car is in "safe" mode and maybes that's why sometimes you can't pass 130.
(if there is such a thing on an RA?)
