Trans Swap
Trans Swap
I have an automatic 05 Ralliart and it sucks. I was wondering if anyone has any experience swapping trans to manual and the parts needed to pull it off. Also is it even worth doing? Any info will be helpful.
I'm pretty sure nobody has done it and I'm also sure it's not worth doing. That'd be money better spent at modding the car and making it faster that way, or saving as a future down payment on a car that better fits what you want. As far as parts you'd need, here's some of what you'd be looking for:
Manual Trans
Flywheel
Clutch
Clutch pedal
Clutch master and slave cylinders
Lines
ECU and wiring harness from manual Ralliart
Center console from manual Ralliart
Shifter, shift linkage, shift cables, all other related parts
If you bought from junkyards and used parts, I would expect the parts cost to be around $2k.

no matter how you look at it. It's going to cost alot of money. With that said also....i am pritty sure that the autos use part of that wiring harness....i am not positive....I haven't been able to look at one.... but i am sure it is tied in somehow because you have to get power to the soleniods and the TCC.....

you speak cryptically..,.. and there are more than one harness associated with the ECU and transmission.... all the .... **** me up and you can't tell what you are talking about either.... that's a pet peeve of mine though...., and it makes me think you are an idiot every time I read your posts (and those of others...., regrettably you are not even close to the first person to type like that
)....
obviously the auto would use part of the wiring harness...., most of the car is identical between auto and manual.... they don't...., however,.... use the same ECU (manual is ECM and auto is PCM) and you would have to replace the harness unless you bought the different connectors and rewired them to the factory harness in your car.... the only instance I can see where you wouldn't need to replace the harness was if Mitsu used a universal harness with both kinds of connectors at all ends...., and I know that's not the case....
and this is definitely not worth the time or money. manual is worth less anyway.

You're better off trading in and buying a new one with the cash you'll throw into converting it to auto. You won't even get any of it back when you sell the car either. If anything a client would be more afraid of problems.
However it'll be all plug and play... just really intensive and surgical plug and play where you'd have to replace a sh-t ton of components, and as Dan and the others have said you might have to rerun wiring and such for the manual ECU. I doubt Mitsu would make a universal harness for that job...

You make me laugh Dan..... it seems to me all you are is book smart.....and so quick to judge someone..... I am book smart, you are correct. I've also been working on this car since I bought it and know quite a bit about it. Doesn't mean I know everything, doesn't mean I should. It just means if you care about what I post then you should be more careful when you make a claim to try and support it with a little fact. if you could care less, carry on. makes no difference to me. as I have explained in the past, I have all the free time in the world to be on here during the day, and therefore spend a little too much time critiquing new input.
and since we are speaking freely and

how do you expect us to believe you are going to do all these great things, and know all this stuff about transmissions and engines etc., when you look like the average bolt on boy? you are having trouble getting your car tuned up properly, even "need" RRM's help to do so. you make all these claims about what you are gonna do with your car, it doesn't look like YOU personally are capable of doing these things. anyone can go fast in a straight line if they buy everything RRM has for sale, and that's EXACTLY and ONLY what you've done so far. it might be faster than my car, or everyone's car for that matter, but it's RRM's car not yours.

OP: sorry for hi-jacking your thread with this bull****.
SSP: this is not personal, but I don't really like you
I don't know you personally though, so it's not personal.
I with ya on the auto tranny sucking...I do not know why they did not just put the sportroinc 4 or 5speed tranny in the car, the eclipse has one and we share the same engine. I only got the auto cuz it has really cheap.
I think if they put the sportronic setup in our cars it woulda jacked the price up more... remember our car is the "civic SI" level of the honda civics... just cheaper in cost.. or well mines was, iono how much you guys paid.
Also the tranny swap would take forever for a shop who isn't dedicated to just your car to complete. The research needed to be done and the parts needed to be gathered would make this a very long project unless you have the cash to buy all the parts new and immediately, disregarding the time it takes to find the parts.
Dan... your comments make my day so much more enjoyable.
