Replacement Speakers

I currently have an aftermarket deck and I want to upgrade my stock speakers, nothing crazy, just something better than stock. Anybody have any suggestions, or at least brands to avoid like the plague? Thanks.

what kind of deck do you have? are you planning on getting an amp as well, or no? did you get the S&S package?

Do you want to run them with or without an amp?

I'm currently running Infinity Kappas all around, and I'm quite happy with them. Pioneer speakers tend to sound pretty good as long as you stay away from the bargain bin ones. I'm also a fan of Polks.

The ultra nice brands are ones such as MB Quart and Focal, but they're expensive, and require a lot of power.

I currently have a Panasonic Deck. I plan to keep it for a while and upgrdade to a better deck (this one only has 2 pre-outs) and then add an amp and sub as well. In the meantime I want some decent speakers, but something that won't need to be replaced right away when I get an amp.

This is kinda related to this post...

I have the S&S and want to keep my stock deck and amp. If I just replace all door speakers/tweeters, will I notice much of an improvement in sound? Thanks!

Personally, I'd recommend getting the whole package all together, instead of piece by piece. If money is an issue at the moment, I think it is more cost-efficient to get a better deck now, and sell/return this one if possible, if you are not planning to keep it. If you cant afford everything now, try to get a really nice deck, and then, once you have money, a sub/speaker/amp system that you like. Ultimately, the head unit is the brain of your sound system, and you should get the best one you can get, or the one you like the most, and then try to match the speakers and amp to it, rather than getting speakers and then having to find a head unit or amp that will work well with them.

This advice is completely arbitrary and irrelevant, since I have never heard a S&S system, but theoretically, I cannot imagine the stock amp having good enough characteristics that you can hear a major difference with an aftermarket speaker setup. I would say, if I had to guess, that the amp is in fact the weakest point in the system, and it would cost less to replace than all the speakers (considering you would actually consider getting decent speakers, not some Xplod crap from Walmart). But then again, I'm sitting here and having tea and making **** up, under no circumstances is this post meant to be taken seriously.

The RA uses 6.75" speakers. I'm running 6.5" Infinity Kappa speakers with 6.75" adapter plates. I believe my tweeters have a 1" driver.

Question replacing tweets, little grills seems tight

How are people removing the little tweeter grills without damaging them? on my RA they seem to have some post-tabs that hang on really good and if i pull too hard it looks like the posts will stay in the frame and just rip the plastic mesh.

Ideas?

I just removed the whole assembly, drilled a couple small holes in the A-pillar, and put in new tweeter mounts for the aftermarket tweeters. I could not get the stock ones out of their mount, I'm pretty sure it's glued in.
