question about stock Head Units

The base (non S&S) HU has a socket on the back, does anyone know if that is for running an amp or a changer?

If it's for an amp, wouldn't the sound quality be horrible out of a stock HU? I'd also like to know what the socket is for and the most sound you can get out of it.

Thanks.
