Rattle in Bumper
I have the same thing, its a mystery to me. Mine rattles on the drives side rear between the gas tank and tail light. Maybe its one of those road side mitsu guys (like the commercial) stuck in there?
yeah that was gay... maybe you should think before you type... but seriously it is like there is something like rattling inbetween the quarter panel and the inside of the trunk rattleing

There was a forum that went over how to eliminate noise rattle from sub's in the trunk. The guy used shoe pads I used socks, however it took away all the rattle. Try it, it might work might not.
I have recentlyfound that I also have that rattle. It sounds as if it is coign from between the drivers side rear fender and the trunk. I have removed all the trunk lineing (dropped 2 of the center push pins) and have the rear seats completley out. I can't believe it is the 2 pins that are causing this much noise, but it is randon, usually during bumpy road. I have checked the vents which have been mentioned and they do not produce a noise similar to what I am hearing. Tonight I'm going to climb in the trunk and have my dad drive to try to determine the location of this annoying rattle.

I found them when I went looking for whatever it was that made the noise in the trunk when I closed my door after parking the car.
I can't think of any adverse effects to your HVAC system, but you may find mice taking up residence in your trunk if you remove the flappers.
fi you close up the vents in the back it will cause a vacum effect when you try to shut your doors, this well not alow you to close you car doors right. well that is waht the dealer told me today.
