So. Here is a little project I started on tonight. Parts are from my RA donor car, and some stuff that would have been used for turboing my white RA.
Im wanting to make a new gauge pod. Not one for the radio's location, the steering wheel, or the A pillar. I want them to be inline with the factory gauge cluster, out of my and anyone outside of the car's line of sight, and I want to have the space to install a double DIN stereo in the future. So that rules out the pods that you can buy, and really narrows down the locations I can use.
So here is what I came up with:
The subject, the center vents.

The piece in particular, without the clock and emergency button.

Shaky Cell pic. I removed the vent tube, and panels.

Cut out the unnecessary bits.

The future mates meet.

The goal.

So now I need to come up with a way to blend the two pieces. Then make sure that the gauges will all fit where I want them. Im planning to have my AFR, Boost, and one more gauge installed. The last gauge will be a toss up between Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, or Water Temp.
Thoughts? Comments? Advice?

just get an evo...
lol...jk...
I'd suggest oil pressure...
but then there may be a problem of running an oil line to the vents...or would it have a sender at the block and just a wire from the engine out?
u already have water temp on the cluster don't ya?(even tho it's likely not as accurate as you're looking for)
or you can always buy a digital gauge with multiple readouts and have all 3 plus possibly more...

The Oil Pressure and Oil Temp have senders that are mounted on an oil filter sandwich adapter. I was thinking oil pressure myself. Figured when mivec kicks in it'll move around. I think I am going to save the water temp gauge for my wife. Her beetle doesnt even have a crappy one like the one in our dash so she has no idea if the car is warm, cold, or about to blow... Might also pass the boost gauge that came in the Evo on to her as well.
I am currently trying to imagine what I can do to fit the gauge pod to the vent vertically. There isnt much to attach it to. So Im going to have to get creative. LOL

Guys. I meed some advice. I've asked before but I don't remember if there was ever a clear answer. When the key is turned to crank over the engine in my RA something doesn't work for most people. When I do it, I guess I flick my wrist a certain way and it works if not on the first turn then on the second. But my poor wife has been driving the RA for a few days now and has the worst time trying to start it. I'm guessing it has to have something to do with the ignitiin because the starter works fine when I do it. I have a spare ignition from my green RA. But id rather use a single key and not have a key to the doors and another key to the ignition... any thoughts?
Edit :: took a look at the FSM with Jorge. Looks like the switch and tumbler are two different parts. Gunna try swapping parts snd see if anything gets fixed.

I know this topic has been floating around here for a while...and AFAIK never really been figured out...probably because it's all our DD's so as u do...we all flick our wrist the right way everytime somehow

A little late here, but I vote for oil temp gauge - it's quite valuable information. Helped me decide on oil cooler, saw the effect of hood vent and crank scraper, saw what a more "slippery" oil can do, etc. Its a pretty cool thing, and the needle goes up and down a lot
my 03 lancer had ignition switch problems...yes the switch is a separate part...try turning to the start position and wiggling the whole cylinder...if it starts then it's the switch...
wow...i dont go on evom for a while and i come back to see bakuro with an evo...daaayum!

Guys...
A sad day is upon me. I have to part ways with the Ralliart. If anyone is interested please message me. I havent put anything on craigslist yet as I would rather it go to someone I know or one of you guys. Buying the car will include whatever parts from Smikes old Ralliart you want as well. It is sitting in my back yard with no engine, tranny, or wheels. But it is full of parts inside, and the wheels are stacked up in my garage.
If your interested in the white car, or any spare parts from your interior or exterior of my spare car just let me know. We'll work something out.
Thanks guys. Its been fun.

Well guys. The Ralliart is officially gone. New owner picked her up yesterday. Im still pretty bummed about it...
Buzzkid and I went out for a cruise to try to help me not think about it so much. We stopped by McDonalds to grab something to eat. And guess who pulls in? My RA! The guy had his wife and kids loaded up in it. Said he'd already took it for a spin, and through the car wash to clean it off again. Which made me kind of happy. He and his wife seemed to be enjoying it already and they were already taking care of it. So it put me at ease a little bit. I hope he enjoys the car and takes good care of it. It was hard for me to let it go. I think it'll always be my favorite car. There wasnt a bolt on that machine that I hadnt turned.
What started as a vehicle to get me to work cheaper than my old Jeep. Turned into something much more. My dad called me last night and said, "I remember when we bought that car in 2009. You called me so excited and wanted the car so bad. You wouldnt leave the sales lot until I got there cause they said they couldnt hold it." IDK what drew me to this thing. But it taught me so much. Took me everywhere. Introduced me to so many people; Cranswick, Nekkidlad, MikeMike, Truthdweller, the whole of the KYstreets crew, and so many more. It was the reason I got into car modification, tuning, racing, and the scene as a whole. From spending days with the car working on it, to making my unbelieving friends scream as we took some curvy back roads. This car defined a chapter of my life. And it will never be forgotten.
Thank you for all the help and guidance over the years to everyone on here. You all were my inspiration.

little teaser. the RA's original motor will be getting built and put into the Evo. So it will live on to some degree!
