Polishing the heat shield

Hey all, I'm thinking about polishing the heat shield for the header. Does anyone have any tips/recommendations on how to do this without leaving any scratches?

Its pretty rough, so it will be a long job, but should turn out nice. If you have a grinder wheel /w a very soft steel brush, start /w that but go light, caus if u scratch too deep, u got alot of sanding to do! Then get some sandpaper and and touch it up. this might take a couple of hours and alot of sandpaper. If you dont have a grinder, just go straight to the sandpaper or start /w a steelwool brush or pad (not the soap ones!). Then, if you have a dremel or something similar, use the polish tool to finish /w a good steel polish.

I just used sandpaper to start 180 - 200 - 320 - 480 - 600 then used the white polishing compound on a side grinder with a buffing wheel and then used some Mother's Aluminum polish. Turned out mirror shiny, there's a pic of it on the forums somewhere.

I'm workin on doing mine. Starting with 320 wet sanding, then 400, then red compound on a wheel. That gets any scratches from the 400 out.
