I have the same Kit and really it is the best bang for the buck my trans used to grind a bit from 1st to 2nd after installing this kit it never has happened since, and the shifts are precise and if you guys are going to install the shoft shifter make sure to lube up the LANCERSHOP shifter all the plastic pieces need lube that way the shifting is going to be even more precise and easierand more enjoyable . Nice review btw.

I've got the B&M precision short shifter and speedsource under hood brass bushings. At first I only had the B7M kit. This has the 4 aluminum base bushings and the adjustable short throw shifter, 25% to 45% reduction. With the base bushings alone and the shifter I noticed a MAJOR difference in feel. I also had the 1-2 grinding and I had to get my transmission rebuilt. Since then I've not had any problems with 1-2 shifts. A few months ago I installed the brass bushings and I noticed and even better feel in shifting. I can feel everything that does not in my tranny. I like as i know if I'm kicking its @$$ or being smooth

Dam, thats the prob I am having. Its just not consistant enough to get the dealers boys to do anything about. Tranny rebuild eh? I better give them a little push. My next purchase will prob be the base bushings from speed source.

yup. Only happens when I'm pushing her. Otherwise, clutch/tranny/shifter all smooth as butta (for stock) My only problem is that the only "real" Mitsu dealer is amost 100 miles from here.

I'm also building a 92 Ranger with a 2.3 Turbo. That is going to be my performance toy so I dont want to spend a ton of money on my already $20K car. I'll fork out the 200 bucks or so to get better bushings and just hope for the best.

My grinding was not minor though. I could not get into 2nd over 3k rpm. The dog teeth and collors were worn right out. nothing left. Rebuild was inevitable

I've already got the speed source shifter bushings in, the underhood bushings are in the center console, waiting for a day that it's NOT cold enough to freeze the ***** off a brass monkey.

On my 04, If I shift near 6000 rpm quickly, when getting up to speed on an on-ramp or screwing around... 2nd gear will grind or just not let me shift into it. *Or* or is this more of a sloppy motor mount issue ?

I've been driving for 20 years, lol, I'm certain my clutch is completely in when i shift. I'm still doing different combinations of "grinding shift" "wont shift" "sloppy shift" in the search. 'tis how I found this
That would be the front motor mount.. I encountered the same problem on the drag strip. The motor torques so much that it doesn't allow you to hit second gear. Thats why my 60' was so bad. You have to baby it from first to second.

I just installed the shifter bushings by itself (no underhood yet). The install notes above really helped. Upon driving the car for 10 minutes, the shifter feels slightly more solid, but not that great. 2nd gear still feels jagged, but a little less. So then I blasted it in first gear to 5500rpms to see if the 2nd gear grind was gone. Upon first try, "WAHHHHHH!" Nope, it's still there. I'm waiting for any store to carry the underhood ones and I will try that out.

The underhood bushings make a much greater different than the underhood. You might still get that grind, though, and the culprit is motor mounts that flex too much.

Motor mounts? Is that so?

On hard 1-2 shifts, the engine moves a lot, which messes with the alignment of the shift cables, causing grinding. Filling the mounts keeps the engine still and prevents the grinding.

The grind happens sometimes on slow shifts to 2nd gear as well, at higher rpms.
