Question for RRM...

...or any sponsor for that matter. Anyway, have you considered offering a downpipe complete with a good high flow cat? I had both setups on my previous car (headers, full exhaust with no cat - and then with a Random Tech high flow cat) and I found the cat cause little, if any, reduction in power. And it had the added benefit of eliminating much of the raspiness of running such a free flowing exhaust with just the off road pipe. Personally I'd be very interested in purchasing such a setup, and I'm sure there are others too who live in stricter emissions testing locales who need to run a cat who would also be interested in buying one.

I know I'm not RRM, but they've addressed this concern before, and suggested that people take the downpipe to a muffler shop and have a high-flow cat welded in.

Yea I know I could do that, but I rather just get a setup already made up so I can do the install myself - I just hate running around to piece things together. The setup on the previous car I mentioned was real cool - you could alternate the off road pipe or cats just by undoing a couple V-clamps and change your setup in a matter of minutes. In back to back runs at the track, my times with the high flow cats were just as fast as with the off road pipe.

Any recommendations on a high flow cat? or are they universal?

The only one I have first hand experience was made by Random Tech - they make 'em in various sizes. And like I said, I was more than pleased with it's free flow characteristics. Follow the link for their website...

Some pics...the cats had a 3"inlet (off the header collector) and a 2.5" outlet to the catback exhaust.

Here's a shot of the off road pipes next the the cats - both interchangeable in a few minutes.

These special V-clamps are what allowed that trick...

I think this would be a good idea, since I am not personally comfortable with breaking federal emissions laws just to gain a couple HP. Nor would I be inclined to buy a product just to have to turn around and custom mod it before installation.

Another thing that should be point out is that as soon as you remove your working stock cat, regardless of whether you replace it with a high-flow or not, you're breaking the law. It's illegal to remove/replace a functioning cat, and if yours stops working, it must be replaced with a similar type.

In the US, at least, I have no clue about Canada.

As long as it passes the sniffer test (for those places that require it), I don't think they're going to look any closer'n that

Adding a high flow cat could keep the HP gains and get rid of the CEL that some RA's get with the DP
